Description

Feb. s, 1938. A H, 2,107,966
ATTACHMENT FOR ARTIFICIAL TEETH Filed July 28, 1937 INVENTOR. J Tag a 0/1 1' BY Patented Feb. 8, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application July 28, 1937, Serial No. 156,213 In Japan June 22, 1937 1 Claim.
This invention relates to attachments for artificial teeth with a vulcanite-bed in a kind of bridge work, and has for its object to provide means for retaining the artificial teeth in position in the mouth, simple in construction, low in cost, easy in application without impeding regular arrangement of porcelain teeth, and reliable in function, by which sound teeth used as piers need not be artificially crowned and are not influenced by chewing force of the artificial teeth.
In the accompanying drawing:
Fig. l is a perspective view of an attachment according to the invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof.
Referring now to the drawing, I represents a clasp adapted to be placed on the cheek side. The clasp I has a limb 2, which is formed near the clasp I with a lug 3 adapted to engage against the undercut of the crown of a pier tooth to prevent the artificial tooth, or denture from vertically getting out of its position, and a locking hook 4 bent in a direction at an angle of about 90 to that of the clasp I. On the limb 2 between the lug 3 and the locking hook 4 is mounted an anchor piece 5, which is .adapted to be embedded in one end of a vulcanite-bed of the artificial teeth, or denture, as shown in dottedline at 6. The limb 2 is arranged so as to make a sufiicient movement to withdraw the lug 3 forwardly from the undercut of the crown of pier tooth as shown in dotted line at I, and if necessary, the part of the anchor piece 5 in engagement with the limb 2 may be recessed at its underside as indicated at 8 to receive the hook 4 for permitting the said movement of the limb 2.
It] represents a sliding locking bar mounted on a holder 9 with toes I I, I I which are adapted to be embedded in the vulcanite-bed 6 carrying artificial teeth in such a position that the sliding locking bar I may be brought into engagement with the hook 4 on the limb 2 when the artificial teeth are applied in position in the mouth. The sliding locking bar IIJ may be provided with a small catch I2, which is adapted to have the tip of a finger or suitable tool placed against it on moving the sliding locking bar III on the holder 9.
On applying the artificial teeth in position in the mouth, the clasp I being held in a lateral position relative to the pier tooth and in a position withdrawn forwardly so that the lug 3 may 10 be positioned in front of the undercut of the crown of the pier tooth and opposite the same, as shown in dotted line in Fig. 2, the artificial teeth are put in position, and then the clasp is pushed backward so as to force against the surface of the pier tooth I and at the same time to bring the lug 3 in engagement with the undercut of the crown of the pier tooth I, and then is locked in position by moving locking bar Ill to bring in engagement with the hook 4 at the end of the limb 2, as shown in Fig. 2, whereby the artificial teeth are secured in position in the mouth.
I claim:
An attachment device for artificial teeth com prising an attaching member to be movably associated with the vulcanite-bed of the artificial teeth, having a clasp adapted to engage a pier tooth in the bridge work at the back side and a limb provided with a lug adapted to engage with 3 the pier tooth at the undercut of its crown and a locking hook and carrying an anchor piece adapted to be embedded in one end of the vulcanite-bed, and a locking member having a locking bar movable on a holder adapted to be secured to the vulcanite-bed in such a position as to permit the locking bar to co-act with the hook to lock the clasp and hence the artificial teeth in position.
