Particularly the aforementioned driving means is generally designated l4 (see Fig. 2) and takes the form of a substantially cylindrical bushing l5. The width of then-aceway is slightly greater than the width of headed members 25 and consequently the latter may be readily rotated relative. to the driving means whenloop 22 is displaced in respect of the clamping components.
In the assembly of the bushing and bearing,
the latter is placed over skirt IS in such fashion that heads 25 of the swingable loop are disposed in the opposed guide grooves 2L: The bearing is then moved towards knurled flange l6 and along the skirt until it strikes flange I 6. During such movement heads 25 register with the annular raceway l8 and are adapted to enter the latter upon slight inwardly directed pressure applied to sides of the loop.

Forming a. part of cover II and depending therefrom are the opposed cars 26 having alined openings 21in registration with diametrically disposed openings 28 of the companion tube 10. Openings 28 in turn are in aline'ment with the opposed openings 20 of bushing .l 5. As illustrated afulcrum pin or rivet 29 is utilized .to

In this connection, rivet 29 is passed through the alined openings 21, 28, and 20, of the cover, tube and bushing after which the shank of the rivet is upset to prevent accidental disengagement of these parts as is well understood.
However preparatory to coupling the hair clamping complements to the driving means, a helicoidal compression spring 30' is disposed within and transversely of the bore of skirt l9. One end of spring 30 is retainedor seated in an inverted conical recess or countersunk 3| (see Fig. 1) or may be retained by a protuberance or; projection 32 struck out of the body of skirt I! (see Fig.5). The other end of spring 30 nor- .mally extends through opening '33 in the skirt l9 and through alined opening 34 of tube l0 and cooperates or. abutsa rearwardly disposed and slightly ofiset lip 35 of the hinged cover ii. With compression spring 30 confined within the bushing and abutting the cover, and the driving means coupled to the cover and tube, the
spring 30 normally holds the cover pivotally closed in respect to the tube as shown in Fig.1l. cover may be hingedly lifted in respect to the companion tube to 'the position'illustrated' in Fig. 6. In such position, lip 35 of the cover cooperates with hearing l3 which serves as a stop to limit further divergence of the cover and tube.
Loop 22 has at its forward portion a transversely disposed portion 36 interconnecting the sides 31 thereof. A spheroid or stay 38 is rotatably mounted on interconnecting portion 36 of the loop. This spheroid may be of relatively soft rubber or other suitable resilient or compressible material. With the loop swung to a locked position as shown in Fig. 1, a portion of the spheroid is telescoped within the forwardend of the, perforated tube and upon rotation of the latter during rotation of flange l6 of the driving means, tube l0 rotates relative the disconnectible spheroid 38.
By arranging the annular bearing between the head l6 and the tube, the bearing serves as a closure for the annular raceway, the bearing, although rotatable relative to the reduced portion or bushing of the driving means, abuts the head and tube abuts the bearing.
In operation, a fragmentary portion of the hair is first removably clamped between the hinged of the tube. Subsequently the loop is grasped by the operator. Thereafter finger pressure is applied to the knurled flange IE to rotate the latter. Therefore the cover and tube although now clamping a part of the hair are rotated bodily and simultaneously. During such rotation, the :hair
clamping complements, the cover and tube, rotaterelative to the stay, the loop, and the bearing. During such rotation, the hair initially gripped is wound about both the tube and cover and the sides of the loop facilitate to confine the wound hair thereabout', and it will be appreciated that although wire loop 22 is hingedly associated with bearing I 3, the rear up'set ends of the loop cooperates with the wall of raceway l8 of the rotatable driving means l4, consequently serving as means to faithfully guide the latter during its rotation to prevent longitudinal displacement thereof in respect to bearing [3 which is closely although movably confined between the rear end of the tube and knurled flange I 6.
To remove the wound hair, the stay is disconnected from the tube and the loop is swung rearwardly. With aslight finger pressure upon the wound hair, the latter may be bodily moved towards the forward part of the tube, and 'be free of the latter and its companion cover.
