This invention relates to garments generally, but more particularly to two-piece garments such as pajamas or the like.
One object of the invention is the provision of a garment of the nature referred to, comprising a coat and a pair of trousers which may be joined together to form a one-piece suit or garment which will afford the maximum amount of comfort for the wearer. I
Another object of the invention is to provide such a garment with lines of perforations or hemstitching at various portions thereof, at which lines the garment may be cut to adjust or alter the length of any desired portion thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a garment of this character in which the trouser portion is provided with loops at the waist portion thereof which are adapted to pass through corresponding openings in the coat portion so that a belt may be passed or drawn through the extending loops to unite the two garment sections into one garmentor suit.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the improvements is better understood, the invention consisting substantially in the novel arrangement and co-relation of parts herein fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein similar reference characters are used to describe corresponding parts throughout the several views, and then finally pointed out and specifically defined and indicated in the appended claims.
The disclosure made the basis of exemplifying the present inventive concept suggests a practical embodiment thereof, but the invention is not to be restricted to the exact details of this disclosure, and the latter, therefore, is to be understood from an illustrative, rather than a restrictive standpoint.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustration, is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a front view of the coat portion of the garment;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the trouser portion of the garment;
Fig. 3 is a fragmental rear view of the trousers;
Fig. 4 is a fragmental view of the lower portion of the coat in unfolded or open position, showing the inner side thereof provided with coat-fastening means;
Fig. 5 is a fragmental elevational view showing a picot edge where the garment has been cut for shortening same;
Fig. 6 is a fragmental front view of a modified form of my improved garment wherein the coat and trousers are connected by means of a belt passing through loops on the trousers which loops extend outwardly through cut-outs or openings 5 inthe coat, and
Fig. 7 is a fragmental sectional view taken on line 1-1, Fig. 6.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, II] indicates the coat portion of a pajama suit or other 10 garment and II the trouser portion of such garment. The coat portion of the suit is provided with sleeves I2 which may be secured in place either by sewing or they'may be fastened by buttons and button holes or by separable fasteners 15 I3 shown .in Fig. 1.
The sleeves I2 are each preferably provided with three rows or lines of hemstitching I4, I5 and I6, which form cutting areas so that the sleeves may fit persons with longer or shorter 20 I arms. If it is found that the sleeves are too long for a particular person, they may be cut along the line of hemstitching I4, for a half or threequarter sleeve at I5, and for a short sleeve at IS. The sleeves may be entirely removed by separat- 25 ing the fasteners I3.
At or near the bottom of the coat I0 there is provided a hemstitched cutting zone or line H and a series or lines of buttonholes I8, I9 and 20 which cooperate with buttons 2|, 22, and 23 for 30 adjustably securing the trousers II to the coat I0. 1
The trousers are provided near the waist-line with a cutting line 24 similar to the cutting line H, the said cutting lines being provided so-that 5 the coat and trousers may be cut atthe said lines to prevent bulkiness at the waist-line when worn by short persons. The leg portions of the trousers are provided with hemstitched cutting lines 25, 26 and 2'! so that the said trousers may 40 be worn by tall or short persons or they may be worn as shorts by cutting along the lines 21. When the coat or trousers are cut along their respective cutting lines a picot edge will result as shown at 30 Fig. 5 thus preventing the raveling 45 of the garment at the cut edges. If desirable, the trousers may be provided with a flap 3| at the seat portion which may be held in closed position by a button or snap fastener 32.
Instead of providing the coat and trousers with button-holes I8, I9 and 20 and buttons 2 I, 22 and 23, rows of snap fasteners may be provided. In Fig. 4, I have shown the inner surface of the lower 5 portion of the coat II) as provided with portions 33 of such snap fasteners, the complementary 56 portions of such fasteners (not shown) being secured to the upper portion of the trousers.
In Figs. 6 and '7, I have shown a modified form.
of the invention wherein, instead of using buttons and button-holes, or snap fasteners to connect the'trousers l I to the coat III, I provide the trousers with one or more rows of loops 34 and the coat with corresponding rows of cutouts or openings 35 through which the loops are adapted to extend outwardly and I pass a belt 36 through the said loops and close same in any suitable manner as for instance by buttons or snap fasteners 31. The belt may be made of the same material as the garment or any other suitable material and may be cut to such length that it will fit about the body of the wearer when closed as loosely as the coat itself, the function of the belt being merely to connect the two portions of the garment and not to tighten them about the waist line.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have provided a two-piece garment suitable for men, women and children which can be readily adjusted to any desired length and one that will give a maximum of comfort to the wearer.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A two piece garment comprising a coat and a pair of trousers, said coat having shoulder portions and extending to the waistline of the wearer, said trousers having a crotch and leg portions, a severance line near the bottom ofthe coat, a severance line near the top of the trousers,
vertically spaced rows of loops arranged on the upper portion of said trousers, one above and one below the severance. line on said trousers,
vertically spaced rows of loop receiving openings arranged on the lower portion of said coat, one above and one below the severance line on said coat, and a belt adapted to pass through one of 'said rows of loops after the latter is in engagement with one of the rows of loop receiving openings, whereby any one of the rows of loops may be engaged with any one of the rows of loop receiving openings for adjusting the coat relative to the trousers.
2. A two piece garment comprising a coat and a pair of trousers, said trousers having a crotch and leg portions, said coat having shoulder portions and extending to the waistline of the wearer, a severance line near the bottom of the coat, a severance line near the top of the trousers, vertically spaced rows of fastener means arranged on the upper portion of said trousers adjacent the
