I hereby dedicate the invention herein described to the free use of the people of the United States, to take effect on the granting of a patent to me. i l

My invention relates to portable. holders for metal tags which are nailed to trees in a forest.

The object of my invention is to provide a convenient portable holder or container in which the numbered tags are held in rotation of their successive numbers and can be removed one by one,

but always in the order of their numbers.

Another object of my invention is to provide for metal tags a holder which can be conveniently attached to the operators belt or tea button on his coat.

Still another object of my invention is'to provide a holder for tags from which the tags in the correct order of their numbers can be removed even without looking at them, for instance, in the dark. l

My invention is more fully described in the ac companying specification and drawing in which-- Figure 1 is a rear viewof my holder;

My holder consists of a housing I made of a metal plate bent over in the middle, the place at the bend forming the upperside of the housing, the lower end being rounded off as shown. A

A spring wire 8 is fastened by one end in the upper side of the housing at 9 and is bent to con form to the shape of the housing at a distance from the partition 2. The free end of the wire tends to resiliently spring out of tapering slot ID in the upper side, a hook ll being provided for locking the wire in its place. Metal tags l2 are assembled onthe wire 8 and can be removed one by one by pulling the free end of the wire out of the slot so as to permit one tag to be removed Having thus described my invention,;what I claimfor Letters Patent is 1. In a portable holder for tree tags, the combination of a housing formed of twonormally vertical metal plates placed side by side with a. clearance between them corresponding to the width of the tags, the upper portion of the plates being joined together, a partition wall betweenthe plates at a distance from the edges of the plates,

to alarge button on and a resilient wire for holding the tags, one end of the wire being fastened in the upper portion of the housing at oneside, the wire extending around within the lower portion of the housing,

the other end of the wire extending through and above the upper portion of the housing, the upper portion of the housing at the other side having a slot for said other end of the wire with a hook for retaining said wire end in locked position. 1

2. In a portable holder for tree tags, the combination'of a housing formed of two parallel normally vertical plates joined in the upper portion, a separating wall between the plates and inside of the housing and adapted to keep the plates at a distance corresponding to the width of the tags, a wire extending from the upper portion of the housing around said partition to the other side of the upperp'ortion of the housing, one end of said wirebeing fastened, means to releasably catch the other end, and means'to support said housing on the users clothing.
