E. G. HUMPH REY NAPKIN SUPPORT Filed May 2, 1927 Patented May 15, 1928.
EMILY .G, HUMPHEEY, OF SAN. FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA.
nArKm surrea Application filed May 2,
l -The present invention relates to animproved napkin support particularly'a'dapted for'chil'drens use, wherein it is desired to suspend a bib or napkin'in' a spread position'over the bosom of the'w'ear er.
' The objects of the .invention are to provide a support for detachably mounting a; napkin or 'bib,*which, when in position on suspend "the napkin or bib the wearer, will in a spread position across theibosom ofthe' wearer without the use of clips, clamps, or other movable parts, and one which may be inexpensively manufactured, pleasing in appearance, and adapted to ornamentation and inscription.
With the above mentioned and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and set forth in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, propor' tion, size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
To comprehend the invention, reference 'is directed to the accompanying drawings,
wherein I v Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the preferred embodiment of my invention.
Figure 2 is a View in front elevation of the disclosure in Figure 1 with a napkin supported therein. v
Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2. I
Figure 4 is an end view of my invention illustrating one end of a cord or chain secured thereto.
In the drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts in the several views, 1 indicates a plate illustrated as arcuate in elevation. The face of the plate 1 is provided with a plurality of parallel longitudinally disposed arcuate slots 2 and 3 separated bya plate body portion 3, the upper slot 2 being of a length slightly less than thatof the lower slot 3. In the embodiment illustrated the edges of the slots 2 and 3 extend parallel with the top and bottom edges ofthe platel. The end walls of the plate are each inwardly and downwardly slotted at 5 forming upwardly. extending hooks 6 one at each end of the plate. One end of theplate is slotted 1927. I serial N05 188,261.
inwardly and upwardly at 7 communicating with one of the slots 5 forming a down wardly extending hook '8 over which is adapted to be slipped thelooped end 9 of a plate retaining chain or cord 10, the other end 11 of which is passed through the aperture 12 inthe opposite endof the plate as shown in Figure 1. The knot-ted portion 9 of the free end of the member 10 may be.
secured in slot i as illustrated if desired. Thenapkin 4 is detachably secured to the plate bypassing one corner thereof from the'r'ear of the plate outwardly through the slot 3 over the body portion 3 and inward- 1y through the upper slot 2, then downwardly to he adjacent the rear face of the main portion of the napkin. That portion ofthe napkin passed through the plate slots is shirred so as to cause a spreading of the depending portion of the same, as shown in Fig. 2. Ifdesired, the end portion of the napkin, after being passed through the slot 2, may be positioned over the upper peripheral edge ofthe plate and downwardly lying parallel with the main portion of the napkin, as shown in the dotted lines in Figure I 3. To widen the spread of the napkin, the
edges thereof may he passed through the 1 end slots 5, the hooks 6 holding the same in position within said slots. ,VVhen the cord or chain 10 is passed around the neck of the wearer and the free'end 9' is'fastened to the 11001; 8, or the knot 9 is received in slot 7, the napkin is suspended so as to cover the body portion of the wearer It will be apparent that the plate may be of any desired shape just so the slots therein are of arcuate formation with the.
lower slot of slightly greater length to insure a spread of the napkin or bib supports ed.v It will also be understood that it is not necessary to remove the napkin from the support each time the-support is removed from the wearer, as the support maybe provided with ornamentation or' inscription identifying the wearer. i i
I claim 1. A bib or napkin holder comprising an elongated body formed longitudinally with a pair of parallel spaced arcuate'slotsarranged side byside, said slots affording a means for threadlng a napkin edge'through the holder body with the body of the napkin depending from the holder body with its side edges diverging, and means carried by the holder body for positioning around the neck oithe weairer. to snlspelnd the holder body transversely across the bosoln gf the wearer with the are of the slots downwardly disposed.
2. A bib or napkinholder comprisinggyn elongated body formed longitudinaliywith' an elongated slot afiord ing a in eans, for
threading a napkin edgethrough the holder body; QI =.:?13 9 Qfi lid 11 1 0 h reo With the body of the napkin dependiri'g. ,ir'rorn e ol er ody, 1 exi 1 ,9, SLQ9 19CQ t 0118 a d with o e, end 10 t d qb dy, he QPPQSi en chef h held-' ho y p ovide i hslo f rec i ng th ee e d of the l bl mean 'Whe bvi h fle e m an is adapted for positioning mound theneok ()i'j the wearer, withitsv free end i ee eived in said {slot to suspend the holder; body ,trans verselv aci'oss the boson gof the wea'rer. v
