PAPER DISPENSER Filed May 29, 1935 aldrfa 961L398]? Patented June 1, 1937 PATENT OFFICE PAPER DISPENSER Application May 29, 1935, Serial No. 23,997
2 Claims.
The invention relates to improvements in paper dispensers especially adapted for dispensing interfolded sheets of paper and has for its primary object the provision of an improved construction of this character which is capable of economical production and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of an improved construction of the character indicated so constructed and arranged as to automatically preserve the interfolded sheets to be dispensed in the form of a stack.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists of the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view, shown partially in section, of a paper dispenser embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, a transverse section of the same;
Fig. 3, a partial section taken substantially on line 3-3 of Fig. 2; and
Fig. 4, a partial diagrammatic view similar to Fig. 2 in which the thickness of the paper sheets has been greatly exaggerated and the form assumed only approximated for the sake of clearness and in which the dispenser parts have been illustrated in dotted lines.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a suitable base member Ill, preferably made of sheet metal in the form of a rectangular casing, having an open bottom and provided with rubber feet or pads II for resting on a table or the like.
The base member I [I is provided at its top edges with retaining lips or flanges I2 adapted and arranged to retain the stack of interfolded paper sheets thereon. The top of the base I 0 is provided with a longitudinal V-shalped ridge I3 adapted to produce a corresponding ridge in the stack of sheets, thereby facilitating the removal of the topmost sheet of the stack.
Cooperating with the base member I0 is a cover member I4 also made of sheet metal and in the form of an inverted box having an open bottom. The cover member I4 is provided with a central longitudinal withdrawal slot I5, having upwardly and outwardly flaring lips It at its side edges as indicated.
In use and in operation the sheets I 'I to be dispensed are arranged in a stack in interfolded relation with each other positioned on top of the base II]. The cover member I4 is then placed over said stack and the sides of the base member II) resting on and supported by the stack. The ridge I3 will form a longitudinal ridge or curve to the stack of sheets, thus greatly facilitating the removal of the topmost sheet through the slot I5. As the topmost sheet is removed, the end of the next sheet interfolded therewith will be drawn out through the slot I5 resting upon the corresponding lip I6 as indicated in Fig. 4, thus permitting of the ready removal of the topmost sheet from the stack as and when desired. As will be noted, the cover member I 4 rests on and is supported by the stack of sheets so that said cover member automatically follows the stack downwardly as the uppermost sheets are removed, thus maintaining the form of the stack and its position on the base member ID.
Doubtlessly the arrangement may be used for dispensing any form of interfolded paper or flexible sheets and will be found to be capable of economical production and highly efficient in use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying the invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but would desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described comprising a base member for supporting a stack of interfolded sheets in elevated position said base member having substantially the same area as the interfolded sheets supported thereby, said base member being provided on its top with a central longitudinal ridge; and a cover member in the form of an inverted box-like enclosure resting on and supported by said stack and guided by said base member and provided with a central slot positioned over said ridge and permitting the withdrawal of the topmost sheet of the stack.
2. A device of the class described comprising a base member for supporting a stack of interfolded sheets in elevated position said base member having substantially the same area as the interfolded sheets supported thereby, said base member being provided on its top with a central longitudinal ridge; a cover member in the form of an inverted box-like enclosure resting on and supported by said stack and guided by said base member and provided with a central comparatively narrow slot positioned over said ridge and permitting the withdrawal of the topmost sheet of the stack; and upwardly and outwardly flaring lips at the edges of said slot facilitating grasping and removal of the protruding sheets.
