END STOP FOR SEPARABLE FASTENERS Filed Sept. 10, 1935 INVENTOR 0/7146 MAR/MS/f) ATTORNE Q Patented Jan. 19, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE- END STOP FOR SEPARABLE FASTENERS Davis Marin sky, Bronx, N. Y., assignor to Whitehall Patents Corporation, New York, N. Y., a corporation of New York Application September 10, 1935, Serial No. 39,909
5 Claims. (Cl. 24-205) This invention relates to separable slide fastogether by a coupling block or clip- I5, which teners and particularly to the provision of an imforms an end stop limiting movement of the proved end stop for limiting the movement of slider [3 in one direction on the stringers. The the slider or rider longitudinally of the stringers clip or stop member I5, in the construction 5 in one direction; and the object of the invention shown, comprises a cup-shaped casing, opposed 5 is to provide an end stop of the class described side walls of which are provided with inwardly with a finger piece or pull movably supported directed prongs I6 adapted to be .passed through in connection therewith to facilitate the movethe top of the stringers and folded around the ment of the slider longitudinally of the stringers enlarged or beaded edges Illa, Ila thereof in sel in the operation of closing the fastener; a furcuring the stop member E in position. 10 ther object being to provide an end stop in the The side walls of the member l5 intermediate form of a clip having means passed through the prongs I6 are provided with notches or rethe fastener stringers for securing the same cesses I! to receive a comparatively straight bar thereto and for coupling said stringers together po n 18 Of a ring or p 59 to p vide a fin er in close proximity to each other, said end stop piece or pull facilitating the operation of the 15 being also fashioned to receive and support the fastener. The finger piece or pull i9 is, as finger piece or pull in connection therewith; and stated, in the form of a ring or loop and is cawith these and other objects in view, the invenpable of swinging movement from the position tion consists in a device of the class and for the shown in Fig. 1 to a position where the loop 20 purpose specified, which is simple in construe would rest upon the surface of the'attached 20 tion, efficient in use and which is constructed coupling links l2. The larged or beaded edges Wu and Ila, to which flexible chain 21 forms a finger piece performthe coupling links or elements l2 are attached. ing the same functions and operations as the 50 The links l2 of the stringers are coupled and finger pieces I9 and 20. The end stop 24 has uncoupled by a slider l3 movable longitudinally prongs 29 on opposite side walls, which prongs thereof and having a finger piece or pull [4 by engage the tapes of the stringers and are of means of which the slider is operated. One end the same general construction as the prongs I6! portion of the stringers l0 and II are coupled except that they are made sufficiently long to 55 overlie the end ball or spherical member 26 of the chain 21 to retain said chain against displacement from the end stop.
The advantages of my improved end stop construction consist first, in providing a practical as well as strong and durable finger piece which may be engaged by the fingers of one hand in the operation of closing the fastener; and secondly, the finger piece or pull may be mounted in position and coupled with the fastener in the operation of attaching or coupling the end stop with the tapes of the stringer, thus eliminating the operations which would otherwise be required to couple or attach a finger piece to the separable fastener. In other words, aside from the cost of producing the particular finger piece employed, there is no additional cost required in its attachment to the fastener, aside from the operation of placing it in position.
The particular slide fastener disclosed is merely illustrative of one type of fastener which may be employed, and the structure of the tape, links and slider may be varied to suit the desires or fancy of the manufacturer or the customer for whom the fastener devices are made. In fact, this is also true as to the contour and style of finger piece employed in conjunction with the end stop.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An end stop for separable fasteners of the class described comprising a stop plate having prongs projecting from one surface thereof for attachment to suitable supports, a finger piece having a portion disposed upon said plate and retained against displacement therefrom by said prongs when attached to the supports, the prongs of said plate being arranged in pairs at opposite side edges thereof, and said finger piece including a bar pivotallysupported between the prongs of each pair.
2. An end stop for separable fasteners of the class described comprising a cup-shaped sheet metal member, opposed side walls of which are extended and cut out to form pairs of projecting prongs with a socket or recess in said walls intermediate the prongs, and a finger piece including a bar transversing said member and having a bearing in the socket intermediate the having a bearing in the socket intermediate the pairs of prongs, and said prongs providing means for attaching said cup-shaped body to suitable supports and for retaining the finger piece against displacement from said body.
4. An end stop for the stringers of separable fasteners of the class described comprising a cup-shaped body, two opposed walls of which are fashioned to form projecting prongs adapted to be passed through the stringers of a fastener to permanently couple the stringers together at one end of the fastener, said prongs being folded and compressed upon the stringers in securing said end stop thereto, said cup-shaped body when attached to the stringers forming a chamber therein, and a finger piece having a part movably supported in said chamber and retained against displacement from said body when attached to said stringers.
5. An end stop for the stringers of separable fasteners of the class described comprising a cup-shaped body, two opposed walls of which are fashioned to form projecting prongs adapted to be passed through the stringers of a fastener to permanently couple the stringers together at one end of the fastener, said prongs being folded and compressed upon the stringers in securing said end stop thereto, a finger piece movably coupled with the end stop and retained against displacement therefrom when attached to said stringers, and said finger piece including a. portion pivotally supported in connection with the end stop and projecting through said opposed walls thereof.
