This invention appertains to advertising devices, and more particularly to a novel means for displaying signs and the like in store window fronts.

Considerable difficulty is now experienced by national and local advertisers in displaying advertising posters and the like in store windows. It is the custom for the advertisers to paste the posters directly on the glass of the display Windows. However, the storekeepers object to the paste, in that it is diicult to remove the posters when it is necessary to wash the windows or display other matter. Hence, most merchants now refuse entirely to let the posters be .pasted in place.

Therefore, one of the primary objects of my invention is to provide an advertising device which can be furnished to the merchant by a national or local advertiser, and which can be readily displayed in a store window without soiling the glass in any way, and which will not hinder the free washing of the glass.

Another salient object of my invention is to provide a window poster display device which will permanently bear the advertising of the person, firm, or corporation furnishing the device to the storekeeper, and which will permit the storekeeper to removably display other posters of goods he may desire to bring to the attention of his customers or to persons passing by the store.

A further important object of my invention is to provide a window poster display device embodying end metal sign plates bearing the desired advertising matter on the opposite faces thereof, with means for detachably connecting a supporting wire or the like between the same for receiving paper display posters, the permanent sign plates having means to permit the securing of the same in place so that the signs and posters will be displayed in close proxiimity to the window glass7 whereby the same can be readily seen and read, the entire device or the supporting wire being freely removable to permit the washing of the window.

A still further object of my invention is to provide an improved window display devicevof the above character, which will be durable and efficient in use, one that will be simple and easy to manufacture, and one which can be placed upon the market at a reasonable cost.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in-the novel construction, arrangement, and formation of parts, as will be hereinafter more specifically described, claimed,

and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which drawing:

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the letter S generally indicates a display window of a store, and D my improved advertising device for display therein.

The display window S can be of any preferred character and forms no part of my invention, but has. been merely illustrated to show the use of my device. The display window S may include a front glass plate 5 mounted in any preferred manner in the window frame or front wall 6 of the store.

My improved advertising device D comprises a pair of end permanent signs iii and il. These signs l!) and il are of a like construction and can be formed from any desired material, such as sheet metal and the like. The signs can be enameled or treated in` any preferred way, and it is desirable to have the advertising matter on both faces thereof, so that the advertising can be read both from the inside and outside of the store.

One manner of forming a double-faced sign can be made by providing metal plates l2 and I3 having in-struck flanges Ml, which are pressed or otherwise secured together. Struck outrfrom the end permanent signs l@ and l! are tongues l5 which are adapted to receive the ends of a supporting wire or rod I6. If desired, the terminals of the wire or rod i6 can be provided with loops il for engaging over said tongues.

The end signs l@ and il can be secured to the window or its frame in any preferred manner, and where the wire extends entirely across the window, the sign plates can be provided with laterally extending flanges i8, which can be secured to the wall of the display window by suitable fastening elements, such as screws I9.

If the wire is not to be stretched entirely viously, both of the permanent signs IIJ and II can be provided with vacuum cups, if so desired, or both the signs can be secured by fastening elements to the end walls of the display window.

The wire I6 between the permanent signs II)V and II permits advertising posters 22 to be hung thereon between the permanent sign plates I0 and I I, and thus the grocer or other merchant can detachably secure posters in position, advertising any goods that he may select.

When it becomes necessary to wash the windows, the sign plate I can be easily taken down, and thus the device will not interfere with the washing of the windows.

Where the sign plates are 'secured to the end walls of the window, the wire I6 can be unhooked at one end from the tongue I5.

From the foregoing -description it can be seen that I have provided an exceptionally simple form of advertising device, which can be given to a grocer or other merchant by a national or local advertiser for displaying posters and the like in the store front, and which will permanently bear the advertising of such national or local advertiser.

A device for displaying advertising posters and the like in the display Windows of stores comprising end permanent sign plates adapted to have advertising matter on their opposite faces, means for securing the outer ends of the .sign plates to a window in close proximity to the glass thereof, and a wire for supporting posters detachably connected to said permanent sign plates and disposed between said sign plates. A device for Vdisplaying posters and the like in the display window of stores comprising end permanent sign plates having tongues struck out therefrom adjacent to the inner ends thereof, means for securing the opposite ends of the sign plates to a window in close proximity to the glass thereof, and a wirefor detachably supporting'adve'rtisin'g posters hooked over said struck-out tongues.

As a new article of manufacture a device for displaying posters in store windows comprising permanent end metal sign plates adapted to have advertising on the opposite faces thereof, attaching fianges on the outer ends of Vsaid permanent sign plates, means for securing said flanges to a window in close proximity to the front glass thereof, struck-out tongues formed on the permanent sign plates adjacent to the inner ends thereof, and a poster-receiving wire having members on its terminals for engaging over the struck-out tongues.
