DISPLAY DEVICE Filed oct. 7. 1929 J'OHN DOE JnCO.
6 I ff .MM @n Patented May 5,' 1931 UNITED STATES PATENT; OFFICE FRANK I-I. RASMUSVSEN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO MAGILL-WEINSHEIMER COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS DIsrL-AY DEVICE' Application filed october 7, 1929. Serial No. 398,049.
My invention relates to a display device which may be used for example to advertise goods to indicate their price. One object is the provision orn such a display which shall be simple to manufacture, easy to set up and striking in appearance. Another object is the provision of means for permitting indication of price of articles advertised or sold. Another object isy the provision of means for l0 readily, rapidly changing price indications and descriptive or display material. Other objects will appear from time to time in the course of the specification and claims.
I illustrate rmy invention more or less diagrammatically in the accompanying` drawings, wherein- Figure l is a front elevation of the device with parts broken away; Y
Figure 2 is a vertical section along the line 2 2 of Figure l with parts omitted;
Figure 8 is an enlarged section along the line 3-3 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is an enlarged section along the line l-A orn Figure l; and
Figure 5 is a detail.
Like parts are indicated by like symbols throughout the specification and drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A generally indicates a back or base member for my display 3U device which may be formed for example oir' a front sheet or member A1 and a rear sheet or member A2, the two being secured together in any suitable manner. I may em-` ploy cardboard or any other suitable material. 'Ihe forward sheet is provided with an aperture or window A3 which is adapted to receive any suitable removable displayinem'- ber A4 which may be inserted or removed into the space between the members A? and 40 A2, as through the laterall apertureor separation A5. Preferably I employ intermediate spacing members A6 between the member A1 and A2, the lower of such members servi ing as a support for the edge of the remove able member A4.
B indicates any suitable supporting means for maintaining the base or back member A in generally upright position. It may for example include a portion B1 secured to the rear member A2, and one or more flaps or` foldable extensions B2 adapted to be. moved into the full line position in which they are shown in Figure 3, when it is desired to mount the device in upright position. They can be folded against the back, as shown in dotted line in the samegure.
In practice I may provide the face of the member A1, with descriptive material, for example with the name or general description of the type of goods employed. The removable member A* may be provided with the name or description of some particular article or articles Vwhich it is desired to display or to advertise.
In order to indicate reductions or fluctuations in price of the particular article displayed, and also in order to indicate the price of different articles displayed or advertised I provide a plurality of removable digits or symbols C each of which may be formed with a -downward extension C1 adapted to pene trate into the space between the'forward and with a supporting extension C3 which pene- "i trates theaperture C* betweenythe members A1 and A2.
It will be realized that whereas I have described andnshownV a practical and operative devicethat nevertheless many changes maybe made i-n size, shape, number and disposition of Vparts without departing from the spirit of my invention. I therefore wish my drawings and description to be taken as in a broad sense'illustrative, rather than as limiting me to my specific showing.
I claim:
l. In a display device, a body member and means for maintaininglit in upright position,
said body member including a orward element and a rearward element, said forward and rearward elements being spaced some what apart, the forward element being provided with an aperture, a removable display member adapted to be aligned with said aperture, the edges of said elements being separated in lateral alignment with said aperture to permit said removable member to be inserted, a plurality of indicating digits removably mounted upon the upper edge of said body member, said digits being provided with downward extensions adapted to penetrate between the forward and rear elements of said member, and an additional indicating member removably positioned upon one edge of said body member, including a supporting element adapted to penetrate between. the forward and rear elements of said body member.
2. 1n a display device, a body member and means for maintaining it in upright position, said body member including a forward ele ment and a rearward element, said forward and rearward elements being spaced somewhat apart, the forward element being provided with an aperture, a removable display member adapted to be aligned with said aperture, the edges of said elements being separated in lateral alignment with said aperture to permit said removable member to be inserted, a plurality of indicating digits removably mounted upon the upper edge of said body member, said digits being provided with downward extensions adapted to penetrate between the forward and rear elements of said member.
3. In a display device, a body member, said member including a forward element and a rearward element of fibrous material, spacing means interposed therebetween, the for ward and rearward element each being secured to said spacing means, the forward lelement being provided with a display aperture, said spacing means being interrupted along an edge of the display device, in line with said aperture, and a removable display member adapted to be aligned with said aperture and inserted through said interruption, the upper edges of said forward and rearward elements being separated and a plurality of indicating digits removably mountd upon the upper edge of said body member,
said digits being provided with extensions adapted to penetrate between the forward and rear elements of said member.
1l. The structure of claim 3 characterized in that spacing means terminate, along the upper edge of the body member, a generally uniform distance below said upper edge, the extensions of said digits being formed to engage said spacing means and thereby to position said digits in relation to said upper edge.
Signed at Chicago, county of Cook, and State of llinois, this 20th day of September, 1929.
FRANK H. RASMUSSEN.
