Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • This application claims the benefit of priority of U.S. provisional application No. 62/736,084, filed Sep. 25, 2018, the contents of which are herein incorporated by reference.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates to a glass pipe and, more particularly, to a glass pipe with a protective antibacterial cover and a discrete cap.
  • Glass pipes are commonly used for smoking tabaco. Glass pipes may easily slip out of user's hands, fall on the ground, and break. Additionally, ash and burning material can fall out of the bowl of the glass pipe, which may hurt the user or destroy clothing. Another issue with glass pipes is there currently is no protection from heat when lighting the contents of the pipe, and there are no antibacterial products used in conjunction with the pipe. Therefore, the pipe may become contaminated.
  • As can be seen, there is a need for an improved gripping and cap for a glass pipe that alleviate the above-mentioned problems.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • In one aspect of the present invention, a smoking device comprises: a pipe comprising an elongated glass tube having an open first end, and an open second end, wherein an internal surface of the elongated glass tube comprises a narrowed portion defining a narrowed diameter opening, wherein the narrowed portion separates chambers within the elongated glass tube, the chambers comprising a material chamber defined from the second open end to the narrowed portion, and a smoke chamber defined from the narrowed portion to the first open end; and a cap comprising an open end and output openings, wherein the smoking device comprises a transport position and a smoking position, the transport position comprising the cap friction fitted over the open second end, and the smoking position comprising the cap friction fitted over the open first end.
  • In another aspect of the present invention, a smoking device comprises: a pipe comprising an elongated glass tube having an open first end, and an open second end, wherein an internal surface of the elongated glass tube comprises a narrowed portion defining a narrowed diameter opening, wherein the narrowed portion separates chambers within the elongated glass tube, the chambers comprising a material chamber defined from the second open end to the narrowed portion, and a smoke chamber defined from the narrowed portion to the first open end; and a polymer coating sealed to an outer surface of the elongated glass tube.
  • These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention, shown in a transport position;
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention, transitioning from a transport position to a smoking position;
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the present invention, shown in a smoking position;
  • FIG. 4 is a section view of the present invention, taken along line 4-4 in FIG. 1;
  • FIG. 5 is a detail section view of an embodiment of the present invention; and
  • FIG. 6 is a section view of the present invention, taken along line 6-6 in FIG. 3.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
  • The present invention includes a discrete protected smoking device to reduce tobacco intake and particles, reduce breakage while protecting the user or clothing from burns.
  • Referring to FIGS. 1 through 6, the present invention includes a smoking device. The smoking device includes a pipe 10 made of an elongated glass tube having an open first end and an open second end. An internal surface of the elongated glass tube includes a narrowed portion 16 defining a narrowed diameter opening. The narrowed portion 16 separates chambers 14, 18 within the elongated glass tube. The chambers 14, 18 include a material chamber 14 defined from the second open end to the narrowed portion 16, and a smoke chamber 18 defined from the narrowed portion 16 to the first open end. The material chamber 14 defines a bowl 12 to contain smoking material 50, such as tabaco.
  • The elongated glass tube includes a cylinder shape having a circular sidewall and two open ends. The elongated glass tube may be substantially straight or curved. In certain embodiments, the open first end of the pipe 10 includes an output opening 20 and the sidewall surrounding the output opening may include a frusto conical shape. The reduced diameter at the output opening 20 may further reduce inhaled particles while smoking. Smoking material 50 may be placed within the material chamber 14 and lit on fire. Smoke is pulled through the narrowed portion 16 into the smoke chamber 18 and out the output opening 20.
  • The present invention may further utilize a cap 40. The cap 40 includes an open end and output openings 46. The output openings 46 may be defined on a partially closed second end of the cap 40. The cap 40 may further include a clip arm 42 extending from the open end so that the cap 40 resembles a pen cap. Therefore, placing on the cap 40 onto the pipe 10 allows the smoking device to resemble a pen, making the present invention more discreet when using the smoking device in public. The cap 20 may further include a screen or filter.
  • The smoking device includes a transport position and a smoking position. The transport position includes the cap 40 friction fitted over the open second end, and the smoking position includes the cap 40 friction fitted over the open first end. The cap 40 is used as a mouthpiece in the smoking position and further prevents inhaled particles. When the user is finished smoking, the cap 40 may be removed from the open first end and placed over the open second end. In the transport position, the cap 40 may contain tobacco, or ash safely in within the materials chamber 16, which reduces the potential to burn the person or fabric and further prevents smoking material 50 from falling out.
  • The pipe 10 of the present invention may further include a polymer coating 30 sealed to an outer surface of the elongated glass tube. The polymer coating 30 may be heat shrunk over the outer surface of the elongated glass tube. A heat gun may be used to shrink the polymer tubing to conform to the shape of the elongated glass tube. The polymer coating 30 may include anti-bacterial properties and heat resistant properties. For example, the polymer coating 30 may include polyolefin. The polyolefin coating covers the exposed glass up to the carburetor while dissipating heat. In certain embodiments, the coating 30 may be infused with a scent to disguise the smell of burned tobacco. For example, the coating 20 may be infused with a cologne or a perfume to reduce the tobacco smell.
  • A method of using the present invention may include the following. After the smoking material 50 (tobacco and the like) is inserted into the material chamber 14, the cap 40 is placed over the second open end to contain the smoking material within the material chamber 14. The cap 40 also protects the second open end against breaking. To smoke the pipe 10, the cap 30 is removed from the second open end and placed over the first open end, the exposed smoking material 50 is lit with a lighter, and the user inhales. In this position, the smoke travels through the smoke chamber 18, passing through the tapered restriction at the first open end, further reducing particles while creating a cooling vortex in the cap 30. The smoke passes through the cap screen and out of the output holes 46.
  • It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
