EDWARD HAGERTY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CAPS FOR GLASS SYRINGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,909, dated March 5, 1878; application filed October 20, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD HAGERTY, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gap for Glass Syringes, of which the followin g is a specification:
The figure is a longitudinal section of a glass syringe to which my improvement has been applied.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved cap for glass syringes which shall be so constructed as to cover and protect the edge of the barrel, while furnishing a guide to the piston-rod, and being easily put on and taken ofi.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
A represents the barrel, B the piston, and O the piston-rod, of a glass syringe, about the construction of which parts there is nothing 116W.
The piston-rod 0 passes through a metallic guide-tube, D, which has a screw-thread out upon its outer surface, upon which is screwed a cork, E, of such a size as to fit into the mouth of the barrel A.
Upon the outer end of the tubeD is formed a ring-plate, F, which rests against the edge of the barrel A, and has a ring-flange, Gr, formed upon its outer edge, which overlaps the end of the barrel A and protects its edge, as shown in the figure.
By this construction the screw-thread upon the tube D prevents it from getting loose in and drawing out of the cork E, and the flange G prevents the cork E from working in the mouth of the barrel A, and covers and protects the edge of said barrel.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of a syringe tube, A, a plunger having rod 0, and a guide-tube, D, the latter screw-threaded on the outside, receiving cork E, and provided with flanged ring-plate F G, as and for the purpose specified.
EDWARD HAGERTY.
