M. DITTENHOEPER.
S SYRINGE. No. 285,978. Patented Oct. 2, 1883 WITNESSES: S INVENTOR ATTORNEY n. PETERS. Phmoillhogn bnr, wmm wn. n c
UNITED STATES MYER DITTENHOEFER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SYRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,978, datedOctober 2, 1883,
- Application filed March 15,1888. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, MYER DITTENHOEFER, of the city, county, and-State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Syringes, of which the following is a specification. 1 v
This invention has reference to certain improvements in syringesthat can be carried conveniently in the pocket without soiling the same; and the invention consists of a syringe the barrel of which is provided at its front end with a nozzle and a detachable nozzle-cap, and at its rear end with a screw-plug, in combinalion with a piston-rod provided with a flanged button that fits tightly over the screw plug, and is threaded at its rear portion for applying the nozzle-cap.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side view of my improved syringe; and Figs. 2 and 3 are vertical longitudinal sections of the same, respectively, with the pis ton drawn back and pushed in.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents the barrel of my improved syringe, and B the nozzle of the same, which is formed integral therewith, the
whole being preferably made of hard rubber or other suitable material. The base of the nozzle B is either screw-threaded or otherwise arranged for applying thereto a tightly-fitting detachable cap or nozzle-protector, O. The opposite end of the barrel A is closed by a screw-plug, A, over which is tightly fitted .a flanged or cup-shaped-button, D, that is seouredto the outer end of the piston-rod D. When the syringe is desired to be used, the nozzle-cap G is detached from the nozzle'and ap- -rel having a nozzle,
] plied to the threaded rear end, (1, of the button D, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. The protector 0 forms thereby an extension of the button D of the piston-rod D, so that the syringe can be handled with greater convenience. The forward-extending flange of the button D fits tightly over the screw-plug A and the rear end of the barrel A, so as to close thereby the rear end of the syringe, while the cap closes tightly the nozzle.
The syringe can be readily carried in the pocket, after having been used, without soiling the same, as the nozzle-cap and the button of the piston-rod fit tightly over the nozzle and the screw-plug of the barrel.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a syringe, the combination, with the barrel A, having a plug, A, at its rear end, of a piston-rod, D, having a flanged button, D, at its rear end, the flange of said button fitting tightly over the screw-plug of the barrel, substantially as specified.
2. The combination, in a syringe, of a bar- B, with screw-threaded base atone end and a screw-plug, A, at the other end, with a detachable nozzle cap or protector, O, and a button, D, at the end of the piston-rod D, said button having a forward extending flange, tion, (1, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres ence of two subscribing witnesses. I
M. DITTE1\ HOEFER.
