Description

J. G. KNOBLOGK 8v T. M. BISSELL.
Plow.
No. 200,734. Patented Feb. 26,1878.
ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN C. KNOBLOOK AND THELUS M. BISSELL, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, ASSIGNORS TO ST. JOSEPH REAPER AND MACHINE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT lN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,734, dated February 26, 1878; application filed January 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be itknown that we, JOHN G. KNoBLocK and THELUS M. BISSELL, of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph, and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description-thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of our invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a jointer for plows, and in the manner of adjusting and securing the same to the plow-beam, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appertains to make and use the same, we will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which-- Figure 1 is a-perspective View of our jointer from the 'front and side. Fig. 2 is a similar view from the rear and side. Fig. 3 is a side View of a part thereof.
A represents the plow-beam, to which the jointer is secured. B is the jointer or colter standard, with arm or brace O in one piece. D is the jointer, with arm F.
The standard B is formed at its upper end with a head, B, to lie against the under side of the beam A. In this head B are two holes, a a, through one of which passes a bolt, b, and
through the beam, for securing the standard to the beam. By means of the two holes a a the colter-standard B can be adjusted laterally to adapt the jointer for two or three horse plowing.
The arm or brace 0 is, at its upper end, provided with a head, 0, which also lies against the under side of the plow-beam. In this head is an oblong hole or slot, e, for the passage of the fastening-bolt d, which thus admits of a lateral adjustment of the said brace also.
The standard B is formed along its rear edge with a straight flange or shoulder, h, against which bears the rear edge of the jointer-arm F. This arm F and standard B are provided with corresponding series of holes 13 i, for the purpose of raising or lowering the jointer to the required depth for plowing. The two are firmly held together by two or more bolts, m,
as shown.
The jointer arm F is, along its front edge, provided with a flange, I, projecting over in front of the jointer-standard B, to prevent the collection of earth, &c., between the said j ointerarm and jointer-standard.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The jointer-arm F, provided with a flange, I, which projects over the front of the jointerstandard B, for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the perforated standard B with brace 0, provided, respectively, with the heads B and G, and laterally adjustable on the under side of the plow-beam, the flange h, and the perforated j ointer-arm F with flange I, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands this 26th day of December, 1877.
JOHN G. KNOBLOOK. THELUS M. BISSELL.
