' One object of the invention is to provide an improved beam hanger for pump jacks, walking .5; beams and the like, which will act to impart'a straight-line stroke to the reciprocations of the polish rod, and do so in a more effectualand satisfactory manner. 7
A particular object of the invention is to pro- 1 vide a beam hanger wherein abutments and other stops are eliminated from the underside of the beam and whereby a positive stop is car,- ried by the beam above the suspending pivot of the top link or stem. v An-important object of the invention is to provide a hanger having pivoted links, the upper suspending link carrying a stop element cor-acting with the lower link so that when the upper link is stopped or arrested during the upper portion of the swing, the lower link will be held so as, to impart a straight-line movement to the vertical-reciprocation of the polish rod. The
advantage of such, an arrangement is that; the.
lower swinging link, which carries the polish rod, does not strike an abutment on the beam, but is merely guided by the stop element, which in turnis arrested by the top stop. This, tends to eliminate whip from the polish rod, as well as to reduce the shock incident to the stop engage"- ment. v
A construction designed to carry out the in, vention will be hereinafter described, together with other features, of the invention.
The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which an example of the invention is shown, and wherein:

In the drawings the numeral I0 designates a walking beam which may be mounted on the usual prop II, as is shown in Figure 1, or which may be fulcrumed in a pump jack (not shown). The invention being in the, hanger,- it may be used wherever founddesirable. The I beam is preferably formed of two channels with their flatsides IZ-facing each other and spaced apart, andtheir flanges I3 directed outwardly. The hanger primarily comprises an upper link the I4 and a lower link I5. These links may bemade of any h avy material suitable for the purpose.
The upper link I4 includesatransverse pivot pin I6, achannel shaped hangerbar I1 and a lower" transverse pivotpin I8 carried by the bar and on which the upper endsof the side bars I5' of the lower link are pivoted, The sidebars carry a rod clamp I9 at their lower ends havingtruni nions Ell-journaledin the caps Z I formed integral with-the lower ends of said sidebars. Theclamp I9 supports the polish rod 22. The side bars I5 carry caps 2 I at their upper ends for'housing the ends of the pin I8.
For suspending the links, bearing boxes 23 are fastened on the top flanges I3 of the beam Ill and 2 and 7) the lower end of the hanger bar will engage the rear side of the stop bar 24.
For holding the hanger bar in position during the upper portion of the swing, a-pair of finger or stop bars 26 fastened to the sides of the beam incline upwardly and are bent inwardly so as to lie contiguous to the sides of the hanger bar II. Inwardly bent fingers or hooks in the upper ends of thesebars engage over the front edges of the hanger bar and provide positive stops, whereby the said hanger bar is held'in an inclined and rigid position during the upper swing of the beam. By holding the hanger bar in position it in turn holds the lower link in position to guide the polish rod in a vertical line. When the beam is swung upwardly to its mid position, the hanger bar I! will engage its stop bars 24 and 26 at substantially the-same time, thus eliminating the shock which occurs when alink swings into engagement with the beam or an abutment thereon.
Where it is not desired to use the inclined stop bars 26, the bearing boxes 23 may be provided with hooks 21' (Figures 9 tol3) for engaging the front edges of the hanger bar l'i'. Atransverse stop bar 24' secured to the rear edges'o'r 'the'sidebars l, takes the place of the bar 24. In Figure 14 a wing 28 is formed on the rear side of thehanger bar I! and the upper rear end of this wing en-. v gages a stopbar 29 fastened on the beam chan nels. Y This wing swings betweenthe channels; but otherwise the hangeris the sameras first described. The wing is apart of the'link ld.

A beam hanger "comprising; a pair-of up-' right links pivoted together, one ofsaid'links being a hanger bar supportingthe other link, said bar being mountedon the pivots of-both,links,- stops engaging both the endsofthe hanger bar for arresting the links, and a rod clamp carried by one of the links. v
4. A beam hanger comprising, a pair of upright links pivoted together, one of said links being a hanger bar supporting the other link, said bar being mounted on the pivots of both links, a stop for engaging the upper end of the hanger bar to hold it in position, a stop on the lower link for engaging the lower end of said'bar, and a rod clamp carried by the lower link.
5. A beam hanger comprising, a pair of upright links pivoted together, means for pivotally suspending the upper link from a swinging beam, a stop--for engaging the upper link above its pivot, a stop Iorengaging the upper link below the pivot of the lower link, and a rod clamp carried by the lower link.
