This invention relates to certain novel improvements in supporting devices,'and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be high- 1y efficient in use and economical in manufacture.

Anobject of this invention is to provide a new and improved supporting device for attachment to the hood of .an automotive vehicle to support an ornament such as a flag, pennant, card, insigm'a, or the like in a conspicuous position at the front of the vehicle hood.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

' The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing, showing the preferred form of construction and in which:

Each of the several forms of the invention shown in the drawing is formed from a continuous length of metal or wire and has a hook element 10 for attachment to a leaf of the hood 33 of an automotive vehicle at one side of the common pivot or rod 12011 which the hood leaves 11 are mounted. These hook elements 10 are formed at the ends of arms 11 and are a common feature of each of the several forms of the invention shown; the arms .11 in the different forms of the invention differing in design from each other but having the same function, namely, for attachment to the hood to hold the supporting staff of the device.

In the form shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, the device has a supporting staff indicated generally at 13. Formed at the lower end of the staff 13 where the same merges into the hooked arms is, a V-shaped opening or crotch 14 to accommodate the device'to the rod 12 in the manner shown in Fig. 1. Formed integral with the staff 13 is a pair of vertically spaced aligned loops 15 for the reception of a flag staff 16. Also formed integrally with the staff 13 at the top thereof is a pair of horizontally spaced clips 17, each clip 17 being formed of a pair of concentric yieldable rings which may be spread slightly to hold a display card or insignia 18. Another clip 19, similar to the clips 17, is formed integral with the staff 13 between the ends thereof to support a card or insignia 20. a

The modification of Fig. ihas a staff 21 with which is integrally formed, at the top thereof, a clip 22 that is similar to the clips 1'7 and '19, for holding a card 23 or the like. A pennant 34 may be attached to the staff 21.

The modification of Fig. 5 has a staff 24.to the top of which is threaded or otherwise fastened a head 25 having an aperture 26 formed therein to which may be attached one corner of a pennant or insignia 27 ;V the tached' to the staff 24. V a e The. modification of Fig. 6 has a staff 28 which includes an offset portion'35 in which areformed a pair of vertically spaced aligned loops 29 for the reception of a flag staff- 30. This form of the in- 20 vention also has a crotch 31 formed therein for the reception of therod 12 and its arms 11 are covered with protective rubber sleeves 32 to preve'nt'marring the paint-on the hood-33.

It will be notedthat in the forms of the in- 5 vention shown in Figs. 1 to 4, inclusive; and Fig. 6, the, arms 11 have a relatively wide spread, are made of flexible or resilient material, such as wire, and extend in a plane substantially at right angles to the upright portion of the-device. The I relatively wide spread of the arms 11 and their flexibility enables them to be accommodated to the hoods of various types of cars which vary considerably in the construction and width of the devices 12 upon which the hood leaves 33-are mounted. at the center line 'therebetween.
