This invention relates to an identification device adapted to be placed around the wrist, the

general object of the invention being to providev a band having two rows of windows therein with a plurality of members carrying letters and mimerals adapted to be placed in the band to be visible through the windows so that the name and address of a person will be carried by the band by placing the members carrying the proper letters and numerals therein.

Another object of the invention is to provide a casing for enclosing the band with a long transparent member covering an elongated opening in its top for exposing the characters carried by the band. r

This invention also consists in certain other features ofconstr'uctionand in the combination and arrangement of several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the. accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughoutthe several views, and in which:

In these drawings the letter A indicates the band which isformed of an elongated backing piece 1 and anelongated top piece 2, this top piece having two rows of openings 3 therein spaced apart with the openings ofone row placed opposite the openings of the other row and the top piece is formed with transverse depressions 4 and the depressed ends 5 which are connected with the under-piece so that the portions between the depressed parts form pockets 6 into the fronts of which the openings are located. A plurality of character-carrying members 7 are adapted to be placed in the pockets so that the characters thereof will appear through, the openings or windows 3 and by providing a plurality of these character-containing members; some with letters and others with numerals as shown in Fig. 1, the names of persons and their addresses can be formed by the characters placed in the pockets. Each member '1 is formed with atapered tongue 8, the tongues engaging the slots 9 in the top and placed in this casing, the characters will be visi- ,and arrangement of the several parts, provided bottom portions of the underpieces 1 so that by placing these tongues through the slots and then bending them, as shown in Fig. 5, the members will be held in place.

I also provide an elongated casing 9, as shown v 5 in Fig. 3 having one end open for receiving the member A and the front of the casing is formed with an elongated opening 10 covered by a transparent member .11 so that when the device is 10 ble. A tongue 12 is formed on one endof the band A and a short tongue having a slot therein is formed on the other end as shown at 13 and the casing is also provided with tongues 14 at one end and a short slotted tongue 15 at the other end so that the tongues can be placed in the slots to fasten the device around the wrist of the user.

The band A and the members '7 are'formed of metal or the like while the casing may be formed of leather or the like. Thus if the wearer is burned, the casing might be destroyed but the band and the members 1 will remain in place and thus identify the wearer.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.

It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. An identification device of the class described comprising an elongated member having pockets arranged in longitudinally extending rows therein, the pockets opening out through the side edges of the device and the top of the device having holes therein communicating with the pockets, character-carrying members insertible into the pockets through the openings in the side edges, a casing having an elongated opening therein, said casing receiving the first mentioned member and a transparent member covering the opening in the casing.

An identification device of the class described comprising an elongated member having pockets arranged in longitudinally extending rows therein, the pockets opening out through the side edges of the device and the top of the device having holes therein communicating with the pockets, character-carrying members insertible into the pocketsthrough the openings in the side edges, a casing having an elongated opening therein, said casing receiving the first mentioned member and a transparent mem ber covering the openings in the casing, and means for attaching the casing around the wrist of a user. i

An identification device comprising an elongated member of fireproof material having a pluralityof pockets therein, openings in the fronts of the 'pockets, an outer edge of each pocket being, open, members of fire-proof material having characters thereon for insertion in the pock- W tongues are passed and bent overfor holding the character-carrying members in place, and means for fastening the device about the wrist 01' a user.
