The improved stove is built up from a number of sections 'or units separately constructed and enameled and subsequently assembled into a rigid structure. While the number and character of the units may vary, they include in the present instance two major units of which one is a base unit providing a base frame 7, an intermediate vertical partition plate 8, and rear wall composed of two rear plates 9 and 10; and the other an inner oven unit generally U-shaped.in form and having parallel inner side wall plates 11 and 12, an inner top wall plate 13, and an inner rear wall plate 14. In the embodiment herein shown, the oven section is of the insulated type and the inner oven unit is mounted at one end of the base frame in cooperative relation to the partition plate 8 and the rear wall plate 9 of the base unit to form two of the outer side plates of the oven section.
To the two major units assembled as above indicated, I apply a pluralityof auxiliary units. Thus a separately formed outer side plate 15, a top intermediate wall plate 16, and a top finishing .or cap plate 17 complete the oven section.
The partition plate 8 of the base unit also forms the inner end wall of the cooking top section of the stove, and at the end of the base frame opposite the oven section is an additional finishing unit in the form of a plate 18 forming the outer end wall of said cooking top section. The rear wall of said section is formed by the plate 10 of the base unit, and an auxiliary or cooking top unit is formed in part by a cast frame 19. Finally, a front frame unit 20 serves to complete the body with the exception of the necessary closures which, in the present instance, consist of an oven door 21 (Fig. 1), a broiler door front 22, a utility door front 23, and a manifold cover plate 24.
The base frame '7 as herein shown (Figs. 1, 3 and 6) is made from a single elongated sheet of relatively heavy gage metal rectangular in form and having opposite end portions of substantial size cut out so as to form front and rear frame members 25 and 26, end members 27 and 28, and a relatively wide frame member 29. The portions of the plate thus removed in forming the base frame may, of course, be utilized in making other parts of the stove. For the sake of rigidity, the opposite side edges of each of the frame members is flanged downwardly so as to make the frame members of substantially inverted channel form.
The-intermediate partition plate 8 of the base unit is suitably secured in position approximately centrally of the intermediate frame member 29 of the base, being for this purpose provided with a flange 30 which is spot welded to the base frame. The-rear plates 9 and 10 are secured in overlapping relation, to the rear depending flange of the base frame, and to a flange at the rear edge of the partition plate 8. Preferably these parts are secured together by spot welding.
The plates 11, 12 and 14 of the inner oven unit are preferably made from a. single sheet of metal and are preferably secured to the top plate 13 by spot welding, said plate 13 having for this purpose upturned flanges at each of its edges, as shown clearly in Fig. 3. At the lower edges of the plates 11, 12 and i4 intumed flanges 31, 32 and 33 are provided, these flanges being apertured for the purpose of bolting the inner oven section in position on the base frame, which latter for this purpose is provided with suitable openings 34. Similarly, the side plates 11 and 12 are provided at their front edges with apertured .outturned flanges 35 and 36 adapted to be secured to the main front frame in a manner which will later be described.
The partition plate 8 terminates at its upper edge substantially in the plane of the cooking top frame 19. (Fig. 1) to which it is secured by means of bolts 37, and the inner side wall of the oven is completed by an outer plate 38 rising vertically from the top frame in spaced relation to the upper portion of the inner plate 11 of the oven unit.
7 The outer side plate 15 of the oven section is mounted in interengaging relation to the frame member-"27 of the base frame and for-this purpose carries at its lower edge and upon the inner side thereof a plurality of bracket members forming hooks 39 spot welded to an outwardly offset lower marginal portion 40 of the plate 15. The hooks 39 have down-turned tongues 41 adapted to enter slots 42 formed in the frame member 27. At its front and rear edges the plate 15 has flanges 43 and 44 respectively secured as by means of fastenirg screws .to the rear oven plate 9 and to the front frame 20.
The intermediate top plate 16 of the oven section has down-turned side flanges 45 adapted to fit over the upper edges of the plates 11' and 12 (Fig. 7) and secured thereto as by means of screws 46. Theplate 16 is thus spaced from the inner top plate 13 to form a flue space communicating at its rear edge through an opening 47 with a space between the inner rear plate 14 and the outer rear plate 9 of the oven section, the latter being provided with a flue hole 48. The forward edge of the inner top plate 13of the oven terminates short of the corresponding edge of the plate 16 to form a passage 49 to permit the passage of products of combustion upwardly into the flue'space between the plates 13 and 16, and preferably baflie plates 50 are secured on the plate 13 to retard the passage of the hot gases to the opening 47 at the rear.
The top finishing or cap plate 17 has downturned flanges at each of its four edges and is so proportioned as to flt downwardly over the upper edges of the plates 9, 15 and 38. Thus it has a front flange 51 arranged to flt over the upper edge portion of the front frame 20 (Figs. 2 and 5) a rear flange 52 fltting downwardly over the upper edge of the rear plate 9 and secured thereto by means of screws; and side flanges 53 with inturned edges engaging the upper edge portions of the plates 15 and 38 (Fig. 7).
At the front and rear edges of the intermediate plate 16 are upstanding flanges 54 and 55 serv ing to space the top finishing plate 17 from the plate 16, this space being preferably fllled with suitable. insulating material 56 (Fig. 2). The spaces formed the hollow side walls of the oven are, of course, similarly filled with insula tion material.
- The outer end plate 18 of the cooking top section is mounted on the base frame in a manner similar to the plate 15 of the oven section, being for this pu pose provided with hooks 57 engaging in slots in the frame member 28 of the base member. Also the plate 18 has a rear securing flange 58 fastened to the rear wall plate 10 of the base lmit, and a front flange 59 to be fastened by screws to the front frame.
The cooking top frame 19 is preferably iii the form of a casting and is formed with a plurality of down -turned lugs 60 secured to the upper edges of the plates 8, 10 and 18 forming the walls of the open top section. Also the front frame member of the top frame is suitably apertured as at 61 to which the main front frame 20 may be connected as by bolts 61*. Seated within the frame 19 is a burner top plate 62 formed of sheet metal and having openings for the top burner of which only one is shown at 63.
The main front frame unit 20 is formed from two castings 64 and 65 each substantially rectangular in form and secured together so as to provide an oven door frame 66, a broiler drawer frame 67, and a front frame 68 for the cooking top section. The two castings 64 and 65 are preferably secured together by means of screws 69 (Fig. 8) the two parts having an interfltting relation for this purpose with the casting 64 formed with an extension 70 overlapped by a channel shaped section 70 of the casting 65.
The frame 20 thusconstructed is applied to the front of the oven unit and the open top section after the latter have been assembled and suitably secured in position. In the present instance.
the lower frame members are provided with a plurality of inwardly projecting bosses 71 of which one is shown in Fig. 2 to receive'screws entered through the down-turned flange at the front of the base frame from the inner side thereof, said flange being provided withsuitable openings 72 (Fig. 3) for this purpose. At the upper edge of the oven section the frame is secured in position by means of screws73 (Figs. 1, 2 and 5) entered through angle brackets 74 spot welded to the top finishing plate 17 and depending below the intermediatetop plate 16 of the oven section. the ends of the front flange 54 on the intermediate top plate being cut away as at 75 (Fig. 3) to receive said depending portions of the angle brackets. Further, the front flange 54 of the intermediate top plate is fastened by screws to bosses 76 on the front frame member.
As shown in Fig. 8, the front frame member is provided with ribs 77 and 77' forming with parts of the front castings grooves for receiving the front edge portions of the oven wall plates 8' and 11.
Within the oven section is a horizontal partition 78 dividing the same into an upper or baking oven and a lower or broiler oven. This partition is, as shown in Fig. 2, of double wall construction, being supported at its rear end by a bracket 79 and at its front end by a rib 80 on the front frame.
Beneath the partition 78 is an oven burner 81 supported in any suitable manner. 8? designates generally a broiler drawer suitably mounted for front to rear sliding movement on tracks 83, which latter may be spot welded to the frame members 27 and 29 of the base. 84 designates roller brackets for additionally supporting and guiding the drawer whose front 22 is arranged to seat in the frame 67 of the front frame unit. Inasmuch as the broiler drawer structure forms no part of the invention, it need not be described in detail.
The main oven door 21 is suitably hinged at its lower edge, the hinges being generally designated 85 in Fig. 2.
The cooking top section provides in its upper portion a burner box in which is supported, preferably by means of the front frame, a manifold 86 for supplying the top burners. A front cover plate 24 pivotally mounted on hinge brackets 88 (Fig. 9) serves to close the burner box.
The lower portion of the cooking top section provides a compartment having a utility drawer 89 carrying the closure front 23. This drawer may be slidably mounted on tracks 90 of double angle formation spot welded to the frame members 28 and 29 of the base. The sides of the drawer carry guide brackets 91 engaging the tracks (see Fig. 4) to hold the drawer in position thereon, and the latter are provided with stop lugs 92 for engagement by the forward brackets 91 for the purpose of limiting the outward movement of the drawer.
To support the body of the stove, legs 93 are fastened at the corners of the base frame which for this purpose is provided with corner brackets 94 (Figs. 1 and 6) substantially triangular in form and having upstanding corner flanges 95 adapted to fit snugly within the corners of the base frame formed by the outer depending flanges. The flanges are spot welded to the down-turned flanges of the base frame. The legs have top plates 96 which are secured to the corner brackets as by means of bolts 9'? which are entered from beneath and'engage in tapped holes 97 in the corner brackets.
The rear edge of the cooking top section preferably has secured thereto a splasher back plate 98 (Figs. 1 and 1) which, in the present instance, projects upwardly a short distance above the plane of the oven top; and the latter may be provided at its rear edge with a guard rail 99 secured to the rear edge of the top finishing frame as by means of the screws 53 (Fig. 2). 100 designates generally a towel bar of U-shaped form having its legs slidably mounted within the fiue space between the inner oven plate 13 and the intermediate top plate 16 (Figs. 1 and 2), and its bight projecting outwardly to the outer side of the oven section.
By reason of the construction above set forth,
- it is possible to reduce substantially the cost of manufacture due principally to, the fact that the stove is composed of separate units each having its several component parts mcured together and completely enameled before being assembled with other units. Thus the base unit-consisting in the present instance of the base frame, vertical partition plate, and rear wall plates 9 and 10, together with the broiler and utility drawer guide tracks, is constructed, assembled and enameled as a unit. Similarly, the inner oven unit is completely constructed and enameled and thereupon secured in cooperative relation to the base unit,
whereupon the end plate units 15. and 18 and the front frame unit 20, each having been previously enameled, are applied to the base and oven miits.
Finally the body is completed by the application of the oven top plates 16 and 17, it being observed that the plate 17 engages with the oven side plates 15 and 38 to hold them in position.
It will also be observed that the front frame unit is secured in position in such a way that when the several closure members are in closed position no bolts or screws are exposed, and the end plates 15 and 18 are similarly mounted so as to leave no exposed fastening devices.
Thus I have provided a stove construction which not only permits of a reduced cost of manufacture and a rigid construction, but which also renders it possible to obtain a neat and attractive appearance.
I claim as my invention:
1. A stove having a body comprising an elongated rectangular base, a rear vertical wall plate secured at its lower edge to the rear edge of the base at one end thereof, a transverse vertical wall plate secured at its lower edge to the base and at its rear edge to said rear wall plate, an oven unit having two parallel inner side wall plates, an inner rear wall plate and a top wall plate secured together and mounted on the base as a unit in cooperative relation to said plates on the base to form a hollow rear wall and one hollow side wall, and a second transverse vertical wall plate mounted on the base to form with said oven unit a second hollow side wall.
2. A stove having a body comprising an elongated rectangular base, a rear vertical wall plate secured at its lower edge to the rear edge of the base at one end thereof, a transversevertical wall platesecured atitsloweredgeto the base centrally thereof and at its rear edge to said rear wall plate, an oven unit having two parallel inner side plates, an inner rear wall plate, and a top wall plate secured together and mounted on the base as a unit in ccoperative relation to said rear wallplate and said transverse wall plate to form a hollow rear wall and an inner side wall, and an outer side plate mounted on the base forming with oneof the side plates of the oven unit to form a second hollow side wall.
3. A stove having a body comprising an inner oven unit including inner, side, rear and top plates secured together, a base frame, and outer, side and rear plates mounted on the base frame, said oven unit being adapted to be mounted on said base frame with the inner wall platescooperating with said outer wall plates to form hollow side and rear walls.
4. A stove having a body comprising an inner oven unit including inner, side, rear and top plates secured together, a base frame, and outer, side and rear plates mounted on the base frame, said oven unit being adapted to be mounted on said base frame with the inner wall plates oooperating with said outer wall plates to form holbase frame to form therewith a base unit.
5. A stove having a body comprising an inner oven unit including inner, side, rear and top plates secured together, a base frame, outer, side and rear plates mounted on the base frame, said oven unit being adapted to be mounted on said base frame with the inner wall plates cooperating with said outer wall plates to form hollow side and rear walls, a front frame secured at its lower edge to the base at the front edges of said side walls, and a second top plate having down-turned edge portions engaging with the outer side plates.
6. A stove-having a body comprising an inner oven unit including inner, side, rear and top plates secured together, a base frame, outer, side and rear plates mounted on the base frame, said oven unit being adapted to be mounted on said base frame with the inner wall plates cooperating with said outer wall plates to form hollow side and rear walls, a front frame secured at its lower edge to the base frame at the front edges of said side walls, a second top plate having downturned edge portions engaging with the outer side plates, and an intermediate top plate secured in spaced relation to the inner top plate of the oven unit to form with said second top plate a hollow top wall.
7. A stove having a body comprising an inner oven unit including inner, side, rear and top plates secured together, a base frame, outer, side and rear plates mountedon the base frame, said oven unit being adapted to be mounted on said base frame with the inner wall plates cooperating with said outer wall plates to form hollow side and rear walls, a. front frame secured at its lower edge to the base and overlying the front edges of said side and top walls of the oven unit and a cap plate having down-turned edges overlapping said side and rear walls and said front frame and having brackets secured thereto and to said front frame.
8. A stove body having an oven section comprising two cuter side plates, a rear plate, and a front frame, a cap plate having down-turned edges overlap ing said side and rear plates and said front frame, and angle brackets secured to said cap plate and to said front frame.
9. A stove body having a base and a plurality of vertical wall plates mounted on said base to form a compartment, certain of said walls being rigidly secured to the base and certain of them depending-into overlapping relation with the base and having hook means for engagement with the base.

Astove body having a base, a plurality of vertical wall plates mounted onsaid base in angular relation, an outer one of said wall plates having its lower edge portions depending into overlapping relation with the base and having a detachable fastening means on the inner side thereof for engaging the base to hold the plate in position thereon, and a top plate having means cooperating with said fastening means to hold said outer plate in position.
12. A stove body having a base unit including a base frame, a rear vertical wall plate secured to the rear edge of the base frame, and a transverse vertical wall plate also secured to the base and at its rear edge to said rear wall plate, a top frame secured to said vertical wall plates, an outer side wall mounted on said base in spaced relation to said transverse wall plate and secured at its upper edge to said top frame, and a front frame secured to the forward edge of the base and to the forward edge of said top frame.

A stove body comprising a base unit having I an elongated base frame, a rear wall rising from the rear edge of said base frame and secured thereto, a central transverse wall plate secured go at its lower edge tothe base and at its rear edge, to said rear wall, end plates mounted on the and edges of the base frame, an inner oven unit mounted at one end of the base frame and having side and rear plates cooperating with said central wall plate, one of said end plates and one end portion of the rear wall to form an oven compartment open at its forward' side and having hollow side and rear walls, a cooking top frame secured to the upper edge portions of said central wall plate and the other one of said end plates to form a burner compartment, and a front frame secured to the front of the base frame and to said cooking top frame.
