TRIPPEDA ADJUSTABLE AND DETACHABLE HANDLE CONNECTION Filed Sept. 25, 1953 INVENTOR ITNESSES Charl Slfiu eclw $4 M I p 5150M W WW/ WORNEY the connection Patented Oct. 30, 1934 UNITED STAT This invention relates 'for adjustably and detachabl-y or red handle with ADJUSTABLE AND DETACHABLE HANDLE CONNECTION Gharles S. Trippecla, New ,5 11% N. Y. Application September 25, 1933, Serial No. 690,922
9 G a msto a device or means connecting a stail an implement such as a floor brush or broom, window cleaning implement and other analogous implements.
The invention contemplates a handle connection of the indicated character which makes it possible to more conveniently manipulate the implement in corners and places which would be difiicult to get at with usual fixed handle; and conveniently carry the place to place when not implements having the to make it possible to implement about from in use, and for the con- 'venient packing and shipping of a single implement or numerous implements.
The invention consists in the simple, inexpensive, practical, and neat connecting device as hereinafter fully described and illustrated in the accompanying dra-Win appended claims.
In the -drawing g and as set forth in the Figure 1 is a transverse section of a cleaning element selected to illustrate the handle connection shown applied thereto, the same being shown in section Fig.2 is -a perspective view of the can :used in connection-with the device;
' Fig. 3 is -a perspective View of :the rotatable part of the device with which the handle may be connected; Fig. 4 is a plan of the implement and showing of the handle, .a portion of the latter being shown in one position in full lines and in' other adjusted positions 'indotted lines;
Fig.5 is a front side view of the implement and handle connection a portion of the handle being shown.
: In .the drawing a floor brush has been selected .to illustrate :the handle connecting device of the invention. wooden -\head or or brush consists of a to which the .usual bris- -:tles 111 are secured. The connecting device in- :cludes a part 12 having a round ;in=the form of a block of metal bore 13 which accommodates an element 14 :in-the formlof Jan .arbonon which the .part lmay :rota-te.
'I-he element 14 has a reduced portion 15 which provides a shoulder 16. The portion 15 has end of the element has a face of which is convex threads 17. The upper head 18, the upper sur- The block of the brush has a hole bored therein centrally thereof to receive the threaded portion of the element 14, after the part 12 has been slipped on the element 14 and a washer the portion 15 against t 19 has been slipped on he shoulder 16. A nut 20 is then screwed on the threaded end of the portion 15 to secure the element 14in fixed position on the block 10. secured will provide an of the block 10. In this ES PATENT OFFICE The element"14 thus I axis disposed perpendicular to the longitudinal and transverse axes m n r h an 12 w ll be mounted for rotation on the element 14, it
being apparent that the part 12 is disposed between the head 18 and held against displacement.
The part bodies a nut since the with respect to the the washer 19 toth us be V 12 emsame has a threaded bore 21 therein which is disposed upwardly at an angle axis of the element 14. A
part 22 made of metal is secured by screws 23 to the block 10 to pr part 22 is made of metal which may bechromium ,or nickel plated to add to the finish andgive a neat appearance to the brush. The part 22 has ovide a cover therefor. This a central opening providing an edge portion 24 concentric to theelement 14 andsurroundingthe same below the head 18 spaced relation to the latter. Since the part 22 is edge portion 24 will made of metal, be fiexibleso as to be pressed into engagement with an edge portion 2 5 of the part 12. A staff or rod handle ZS is provided, and
its lower end has a ries a screw stud 2 ;28 are complementary to the threads of the :bore
so that stud .2 ma b s wd bore. The handle with the brush and metal ferrule 27 which ,carh th fifi 9 t Stud into the 26 "may thus be connected may be swung to various radial positions of adjustment with respect to the with the e usted to with respect to the brush as 4;. By turning the handle 26 2 1 until the edge portion 2&1,
12 to secure the handle 26 in e underd the posit on by the engagement" of without r i ac with the edge portion ofthe part 12.
In accordance with another feature of the invention, use is made of a concavo-conve having a central hole 30 therein and x cap 29 a radial notch 31 opening through the outer peripheral edge thereof, and depending portions 3 2 at the opposite sides of the notch, respectively. The
portions 32 are integral portions of the are provided in making the notch 31.
29 is held in place for rotation on the of the element 14 by a cap screw 33 scre cap and The cap head 18 wed into between the head 18 and 2 the element 14. The spaced portions 32 embrace the opposite sides of the part 12 so as to rotate with the latter. The cap 29 in conjunction with the part 12, serves to close the space the edge portion 24 of the part 22, and also gives a completed finish to the connection. The cap 29 may be chromium or nickel plated similar to the cover part 22.
Attention is called to the fact that in securing the handle 26 in the desired position of adjustment, the ferrule 2'? will engage the cap 29 as well as the edge portion 24 of the part 22,
although it is not necessary that the ferrule 2'7 should so engage the cap 29. I v
The handle 26 may be detached for the purposes mentioned hereinbefore. The handle 26 easily may be detached by turning the same to unscrew the stud 28irom thebore 21 in the part 12.
