IMPROVEMENT IN RIDING-FLOWS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,380, dated November 20, 1877; application filed I October 13, 1877.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES KENNEDY, of Minnesota City, in the county of Winona and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Riding-Flows; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.

Figure 1 of the drawings is a side view of my riding-plow. Fig. 2 is a rear view, Fig.

3 is a plan view, and Fig. 4 is a detail view,

thereof.

The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a sulky at tachment for plows, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The annexed drawing, to which reference is made, fully illustrates my invention.

A represents the beam, B the plow proper, and C G the handles, of any plow constructed in any of the known and usual ways. The sulky attachment is composed of two beams, D D, connected at their front ends, and having an axle, a, placed in suitable box or boxes on their under sides, a certain distance in front of their rear ends.

The axle a is stationary in, its boxes, and has one end straight to receive the wheel E, while the other end of the axle is formedwith a jog or crank to receive the other wheel, E, and make the difference in height with the wheel E, which runs in the furrows. The rear ends of the beams D D are formed with longitudinal slots b b, and the'seat-supports G are placed thereon, and fastened by bolts d d at any point on the beams desired, allowing of the adjustment of the seat G baokwardfor forward, according to the weight of the driver.

In the front of this attachment-that is to say, in the connection at the front ends of the beams vD-is a swiveled hook, I, which is hooked into a bar, H, fastened to the plow, by which means said sulky attachment can be easily and quickly removed and attached again as required.

Upon the rear ends of the handles 0 O are attached two short arms, h h, which are secured upon a rod, L. This rod the driver takes hold. of for operating the plow. The lower ends of the arms hare slotted or forked, forming, as it were, clamps to straddle the ends of the handles 0, and are fastened thereon by bolts 1', as shown. These arms can easily be adjusted as required upon the handles. The driver can regulate the depth of the plowing by simply moving his body backward or forward while passing over uneven places.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In combination with a plow, the sulky attachment, consisting of the slotted beamsD D, axle a, wheels E E, adjustable seat G,

swiveled hook I, and bar H, all substantiallyv as and for the purposes set forth.

' 2. The rod L, with arms hh, forked at their lower ends, forming clamps, and provided with bolt 6, in combination with the handles of a plow, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
