In grocery stores, meat markets, barbershops, drug stores and similar places, the employers desire that their clerksand attendants present a uniform and neat appearance and to this end require that .the employes wear a coat or apron, or both. Such coats and aprons are usually supplied through linen supply companies and constitute an item of expense. The clerks or attendants also wear a shirt under the coat and, thus,

there are three garments that are apt to be soiled in a days work. Moreover, the clerks and attendants are apt to wear shirts of various colors, or soiled shirts, and thus detract from the desired neatness and uniformity. During warm weather,

the amount of clothing thus required to be worn is apt to make the employe unduly uncomfortable. With the idea in mind of maintaining uniform and neat appearance, reducing laundry expense,

, the cost of the linen used, and increasing the comfort of employes in such establishments, I have produced what I may aptly describe as a combined coat and shirt which. is washable and which may be worn with or without an apron.

The combination coat and shirt of my invention may be furnished in any desired colors but white may be preferred. Thus, all of the clerks and attendants in any one establishment will be dressed in the same color with resultant uni-' formity and neatness of appearance.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, I will describe my invention in connection with the accompanying drawings which are submitted for illustrative purposes only. It will readily be understood that my invention is susceptible of embodiment in other forms without sacrificing any of its advantages or departing from thescope thereof as defined in the appended claims.

Referring now to the drawings,- and particularly to Fig. 1, I have shown a coat comprising a body portion 10 and coat sleeves 11, which may be made in the usual manner. The coat is buttoned at the front by means of buttons 12 and buttonholes 13. Suitable lapels 14 define a substantially V -shaped neck opening 15.

Upon the inside of the coat adjacent the neck opening 15, I have secured a shirt member indicated by the general reference numeral 16. The shirt member is secured to the coat by suitable stitching 1'7 and comprises two portions which are secured together by means of buttons 18 as is usual in shirt construction. The shirt member is' also provided with a collar 19 which is attached to the shirt member in substantially the same way that collars are usually attached to As shown particularly in Fig; 2, the lower portion of one section of the shirt member is free from the coat as indicated at 20 so that when the coat is unbuttoned, the shirt may also be unbuttoned and the garment removed in the way that a coat is usually removed.

The foregoing description I believe will serve to make my invention perfectly clear. It is seen that I have .provided a combined coat and shirt which. is of simple and inexpensive construction. Such a combined coat and shirt may be laundered at no greater expense than the cost of laundering the coat alone, as has been the practice heretofore. Moreover, with my-combined coat and shirt, the clerk or attendant need not wearhis own shirt, thus savinghim some laundry expense. At

- the same time, all of the clerks and attendants will wear the same combination garment of my invention, thus producing a uniform and 'neat appearance.

- The combined coat and shirt illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 may be worn with or without an apron, as desired.

In Figs. 3 and 4, I have illustrated a modification of my invention. In general the difference between this modification and the form. heretofore described is that the modified form really comprises a shirt with coat lapels and coat sleeves whereas in the main-embodiment of the invention I have provided a coat with a shirt portion attached to it.

Referring to Fig. 3, I therein show a shirt or coat member 25 provided with coat sleeves 26. .This member buttons up at the front in the manner of a shirt bymeans of buttons 27 and buttonholes 28. I provide a collar 29 which is attached to the upper part of the coat orshirt the usual manner. Upon the upper part of the coat or shirt adjacent the neck I provide a pair of lapels 30 which are i'ormed separately from the coat and attached thereto by suitable stitching 31. As will be seen from Figs. 3 and 4 the lapels are secured to the body of the coat to simulate the usual form of lapel and to define a substantially V-shaped neck opening 32, along the lines of the neck opening shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Thus, this garment also presents the appearance of a coat and shirt. The form of the garment shown in Figs. 3 and 4 will best be worn in combination with an apron, although this it not necessary.

I claim as my invention:

1. A combination washable garment comprising a coat member having a neck opening, a shirt member comprising separable sections secured to said coat member and filling said neck opening, said sections of said shirt member terminating at the shoulder seam of said coat, and a soit told 1 collar on said shirt member forming the sole collar for the combination garment.

2. A combination washable garment comprising a coat member having coat sleeves, said coat member being open at the front and provided with lapels ,defining a neck opening, a shirt member comprising separable sections secured to said coat member within said neck opening, and a soft fold collar on said shirt member pro- Jecting above said coat member and forming the sole collar for the combination garment.

3. A combination washable garment comprising a coat member having a neck opening, a shirt member comprising separable sections secured to said coat member and filling said neck opening, and a soft fold collar uniting said sections of said shirt member and forming the sole collar for the combination garment, said collar being secured at the back to the upper edge of said coat member and projecting above the samet FRANK M.
