Unger, Chicago, Ill., assignor to Wilson- Jones Company, Chicago. 111., a Corporation of Massachusetts Application March 19, 1931. Serial No. 523,733
4 Claims. (Cl. 129-8) This invention relates to a record binder in move relatively to the posts. The pintle slide combination with a sheet compressor which has rounded projections 9 extending from one is adapted for initially receiving the record sheets end of the elongated slots 8 and these rounded and maintaining the same in compressed form. projections are adapted for engaging cylindrical The binder and compressor are so constructed holes 10 which are drilled partially through the that the compressor can be readily impaled upon ends of the posts 3. The far end of the casing 6 the posts of the binder whenever it is desired to is closed and a coil spring 11 is positioned bedo so. tween the far end of the casing 6 and the end The invention comprises the novel structure of the pintle slide '7 for normally urging such 10 and combination of parts hereinafter described pintle slide into locking engagement with the and more particularly pointed out and defined in posts 3. The other end of the casing 6 is closed the appended claims, except for a slot 12 through which a finger On the drawings: Figure 1 is a fragmentary piece 13 projects. These hinge plates 2 are stantially eq 130 that Of the hinge p e designed to swing upon their pivot hinges as Imp in posts 16 are secured to the base m m shown in Figure 4. Each hinge plate 2 has a ber 15 and a removable top member 17 18 Se 40 second hinge plate a welded thereto and impaling cured to the top of the posts 16. This top memposts 3 extend through one hinge plate 2 and its her 1'7 may be Secu t0 Posts in y 0 accompanying hinge plate 4. The cover memvenient manner for ready removal. In the presbers 5 are hinged to the lower margins of the ent instance it is shown as connected to the posts hinged plates 4 whereby the covers may be by screws 18. The base and top members 15 and 45 swung relatively to the hinge plates 2 while 1'? of the compressor are suitably apertured for the latter may be swung relatively to the back receiving the impaling posts 3 of the binder. member 1. When the compressor has been filled with The hinge plate 2 opposite the one carrying records and it is desired to incorporate the same the posts 3 has a casing 6 welded thereto which in the binder, the posts 3 are unlatched from 50 is suitably apertured for receiving the ends of the casing 6 and swung into the position shown the impaling posts 3. Within the casing 6 there in Figure 4 in Which position the mpres or is a pintle slide 7 which is suitably apertured as may be readily impaled upon the posts 3. It indicated at 8 for receiving the ends of the imwill of course be understood that the record paling posts. It will be noted that the apertures sheets are provided with suitable apertures for 55 8 are elongated. to allow the pintle slide to receiving the impaling posts 3 in addition to the posts 16. When the compressor has been impaled upon the posts 3 the parts may be swung into their closed positions and the finger piece 13 released for allowing the spring 11 to project the slide 7 to its operative position.
When the binder has been supplied with the records through the instrumentality of the compressor and it is desired to permanently lock the same, the partially severed portion 19 of the casing 6 may be hammered down to engage a notch 20 in the slide bar for permanently locking such slide bar against movement. The partially cut portion 19 is adapted to register with the notch 20, when the pintle slide is in its operative position as shown in Figure 5.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that a novel form of record binder has been provided in combination with a compressor that may be used for daily receiving the record sheets and holding the same in compressed form and from wrinkling and which may be readily impaled upon the impaling posts of the binder and permanently locked in the record binder when it is desired to do so.
I am aware that many changes may be made and numerous details of construction may be varied through a wide range without departing from the principles of this invention, and I therefore do not purpose limiting the .patent granted hereon otherwise than necessitated by the prior art.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a record binder, a back member, a hinge plate hinged to one margin of said back member, impaling posts carried by said hinge plate, a hinge plate pivoted to the other margin of said back member, a casing carried by said second hinge plate, said casing having apertures for receiving said impaling posts, a pintle slide in said casing, said pintle slide and impaling posts plate and having apertures for receiving the free ends of said impaling posts, a pintle slide in said casing, said pintle slide and impaling posts having interengaging means for locking said posts to said casing, and a movable finger piece upon said pintle slide adapted. for interlocking with said casing when said pintle slide is in its inoperative position.
3. In a record binder having a back member, a hinge plate pivoted to each longitudinal margin of said back member, impaling posts secured to one hinge plate, a casing secured to the other hinge plate and having apertures for receiving the impaling posts, a pintle slide in said casing, said impaling posts and pintle slide having interengaging means for locking said impaling posts to said casing, yielding means for normally urging said pintle slide into its operative position and a movable finger piece upon said pintle slide adapted for interlocking with said casing when said slide is in its inoperative position.
4. The combination with a binder having a back member, a plate hinged to one longitudinal margin of the back member, posts carried by said plate, said plate being swingable to bring said posts into an upwardly inclined plane and a sheet compressor having parallel members connected by posts and provided with apertures and adapted to be positioned upon said first mentioned posts when the same are upwardly inclined.
