Description

y 1933. A. s. GOLANKE k$ GAUGE FOR USE IN TRIMMING MOUSTACHES Filed March 16, 1932 Patented May 2, Q1933 UNITED STATES ALEXANDER S. GOLANKE, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN GAUGE FOR USE IN TRIMMING MOUSTACHES Application filed March 16, 1932. Serial No. 599,157.
My invention refers to toilet articles, and has for its object to provide a gauge to guide the layman in trimming the moustache accurately and symmetrically at all times, it
5 being understood that the gauge or shield is shaped to conform to the various styles in moustaches.
lVith the above and other minor objects in view, the invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth with reference to the accompanying drawing and subsequently claimed.
In the drawing z- Figure 1 represents a face view of a gauge conforming to a certain style of moustache, the shield embodying the features of my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view of another form of gauge.
Figure 3 is a similar View of still another form of gauge, in which illustration the gauge is shown equipped with a flexible band for holding the same in place.
Figure 4 is a cross sectional View of the gauge, the section being indicated by line etet of Figure 3, and
Figure 5 is a side elevation of a safety razor head designed to be used in connection with the gauge.
Referring by characters to the drawing, the numeral 1 represents a flexible gauge, which is preferably moulded from pliable rubber, its upper and lower lines 2-2 being adapted to conform to the contour of the moustache. The center portion of the gauge is provided with a centering rib 3, whereby the gauge or shield is centrally alined so as to truly position the shield over the mustache. Moulded in the tapered ends of the shield are the shanks of eyes t-A, which are adapted to receive, as best shown in Figure 3 of the drawing, the ends of flexible bands 5, the bands at their rear ends being provided with a hook and eye attaching means 6.
Thus it will be seen that when it is desired to shave the moustache to its original shape, a gauge is selected of a particular style and is placed over the moustache and held firmly in position by the band elements 5-5, which are passed over the checks of the person and secured at the back.
By referring particularly to Figure 4 of the drawing, it will be noted that the shield is concavo-convex in shape so that it will snugly fit over and cushion against the moustache, while the upper and lower demarcation edges 22 contact firmly with the skin of the person so as to constitute 00 somewhat a cupping action to prevent slippage. Thus, when the gauge is firmly in place, the safety razor can be freely used, and by shaving up to the demarcation edges, the moustache is always perfectly alined without any effort upon the part of the person shaving to prevent inadvertent disfiguration of either side of the moustache.
It will be understood that, as shown in Figure 5 of the drawing, the holder, or clamping plate BB, for the safety razor blade, in this instance is provided with edges which thus dispense with the ordinary teeth so that the edge of the blade A can come snugly against the demarcation edges of the gauge or shield.
It is also understood that while I have shown several specific forms of the invention, and certain means for holding the shield or gauge in place, it is understood that 30 I may vary the structural features for carrying out the details of the invention without departing from the spirit of the claims.
I claim:-
1. As a new article of manufacture, a 35 moustache trimmer gauge comprising a flexible shield adapted to be secured over the moustache and shaped in outline to conform to the same, the said shield being concavo-convex in cross section to snugly engage the skin of the wearer about the moustac-he and provided with a rib for correctly positioning the same relative to the center of the imoustache.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a moustache trimmer gauge comprising a flexible shield shaped in outline to conform to the same, the said shield being concavo-convex in cross section and provided with a rib for correctly positioning the same relative to the center of the moustache, the concaveconvex shape of the gauge forming a housing for receiving the moustache, the edges of the gauge engaging the skin of the wearer to form a razor abutment and a flexible band connecting the ends of the shield for securing the same in position upon the face.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin.
ALEXANDER S. GOLANKE.
