MUsTAcHE TRIMMER Filed July 29. 1955 Primo ZfzZcwzOnZ-z/ MUSTACHE TRIMMER Primo W. Talamonti, Chicago Heights, Ell.
Application July 29, 1955, Serial No. 525,125
2 Claims. (Cl. 313-34) This invention relates to shaving devices and more particularly to means for accurately trimming mustaches.
The present invention provides a device which can be preset with considerable care and accuracy to t the face of the user and to trim his mustache with precision according to any desired predetermined pattern; and which thereafter may be used indefinitely without further adjustment so as to trim the mustache with dispatch and invariably to provide the identical shape therefor at the identical location upon the upper lip.
The invention further does not have the disadvantage of imposing a predetermined mustache pattern upon the user; or of limiting him to a few selected sizes and shapes. Because of the ease with which the trimmer guide bars may be bent to shape, the user can form the v contour and size of his mustache to suit his own personal taste. Indeed, the two halves of the mustache may differ to some slight degree to accommodate the asymmetry which characterizes every human face.
An object of this invention is to provide a novel mustache trim guide, which when placed in operative position assures that cutting of a mustache will be only to the desired mustache line of trim, and further to provide a novel razor which is cooperable with the trim guide to achieve the desired mustache trim and effect.
Another object of this invention is to provide apparatus which allows accurate trimming of the mustache to the shape so desired, and which enables said trimming to be achieved without chance of error and in a minimum of t1me.
A feature of this invention is to provide mustache trimming apparatus which is readily adjustable to the physical requirements of all users thereof, and which is adaptable to the trimming of various shaped mustaches.
And still another object of this invention is to provide mustache trimming apparatus which is simple and durable in construction, easily positioned for achieving the desired results, and comfortable to use.
The foregoing and other objects, advantages and features of construction of the invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following description and the appended drawing.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the invention in operative position;
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of the trim guide;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the trim guide and cooperating razor in operative position;
Figure 4 is a plan view of the novel razor used for trimming the mustache; and
Figure 5 is a view taken on line 5--5 in Figure 4.
The invention includes two principal parts. The first, the guide device, has a bite block 22 which is inserted in the mouth and a nose rest 17 which is pressed against the undersurface of the nose. Thus these two anatomical landmarks position the trimmer guide. The nose rest is adjustable relative to the bite piece and is adjusted and set to precisely t the face of the user. The trimmer is States Patent i 2,894,684 Patented Sept. 3, 1957 provided with a guide bar 11 of copper or other soft material which the user carefully bends to the particular pattern which he desires for the upper margin of his mustache. Said guide bar may be positioned vertically upon the nose rest standard bar 15, and set so that thereafter the top margin of the mustache is always trimmed to the identical position relative to the face of the user.
The second principal part of the invention is the razor 30, consisting of a guide arm 31, 32 having a rest 44 which is slid along the trimmer guide bar 11, and which bears a small safety-razor type razor head for holding a blade 40. The razor blade 40 is disposable and can be conveniently inserted and removed from the razor portion.
The entire device can be made of materials which can be Washed and sterilized without harm, for reasons of sanitation. Also, if desired, the nose rest may be covered with a pad of sponge rubber or the like for comfort.
Since little problem is involved in trimming the bottom of the mustache, which is usually done with a straight edge shears or conventional razor, the present invention is directed towards trimming the upper line of the mustache. However, it is to be understood that the unique razor comprising the invention, because of its size and convenience, also lends itself admirably to the trimming of the bottom of the mustache.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the trimming guide consists of a rod 11 mounted so as to facilitate trimming of the mustache. symmetrical portions 12 and 13 of rod 11, of course, may be so shaped as to outline the particular style and curve of the mustache desired. Guide rod 11 is mounted by a bracket 14 to a vertical standard 15 which is of square or rectangular cross-section so as to prevent any turning of the guide rod 11 with respect to the face. Clamping means, exemplified by a locking thumb screw 16 threadably engaged in bracket 14, retains the bracket and hence rod 11 in position on standard 15. At the top of standard 15 a stop or nose rest 17 is provided for engaging the undersurface of the nose of the user so that the apparatus is held steady during shaving of the mustache.
Standard 15 is held by a second U-shaped bracket 18; and clamping means, again exemplified by a second set screw 19 threaded through bracket 18 and engageable with standard 15, provides an adjustment for positioning nose rest 17. One leg Ztl of bracket 18 is joined to a horizontal member 21 connected with mouth bite 22. Leg 20 and member 21 are articulated together at pivot 23, and are lockable in position with respect to each other by still another clamp, exemplified by locking screw 24 and nut 25, thus allowing standard 15 and hence trim guide rod 11 to be set at any desired inclination with respect to the upper lip.
The entire guide apparatus is supported in operative position by mouth bite 22 when the latter is held in the mouth. The upper and lower surfaces 26 and 27, respectively, of bite 22 may be so shaped Vor contoured as to receive the teeth of the user of the apparatus, thus enabling comfortable use thereof at all times while also preventing slipping of the apparatus when in operative position. At the forward end of the mouth bite, there is provided a shelf or ledge 28 upon which the upper lip may comfortably rest when the guide device is in operative position. Shelf 28 further provides means by which the upper lip is always in the same position with respect to the trim guide bar 11 so that the same accurate trim guide line is always achieved. Member 21 is slidably held in the mouth bite 22, allowing the entire apparatus to be set the required distance from the face of the user, afteiwhich a clamp, shown in the drawings as a locking screw 29, fixes member 21 at the required position.
Referring to Figures 4 and 5, the razor 30 comprises tion has a razor receiving' portion 37, 38, respect'ively,Av
extending substantially perpendicular thereto'and form"- ing a narrow safety-razor head; Blade receiving portion 38 extends beyond its cooperatingl portion 37, and is arched slightly at 39 to act as a comb for smoothingthe mustache before the safety-razor blade 40 cuts.'y 'o" facilitate the cutting' action, a transverse slot 41 is'provided with the leading edge 42 of: member 3'8" serving't'o marshal the whiskers through the' slot an'cl'past the blade 40 for cutting.
The razor he'ad and'- blade are held in nested' relationship by a' locking means, shown in :the: presentl embodimentas a screw 43' threadably engaged'v in housing-"'35 adjacent the outer end of bodyportion 31 and adapted to abut'boss 36 adjacent the outer' end: of body portion 32.I When this screw 43 is loosened in its housing', it permit'srela-V tive movement between portions 37 and 38/ so' that the old blade may be removed and a new blade inserted.l Thereafter, screw 43 is threaded'intofpla'ce; applying presh sure to boss 36 until portions- 37, 38 and the bladev 40'are`A held compactly together.
Each razor portion 31 and 32- is provided witha longi tudinal slot 44 which enables th'e trim guid rod` 1'1" to be inserted within the razor 30 for the guidance thereofk in the trimming operation. In use, the razor is inserted on a guide bar 12 or 13 andA` adjacent to the center of the apparatus. The razor is held substantially parallel with the bar whereon it is inserted and av downward arid outwardV motion is imparted thereto to shave the upper part of the mustache and thereby achieve an accurate trim". The same action is repeated o`n the other side ofV the apparatus to trim the other side of the mustache. Thus; with two strokes ea'ch day, one on'each side of the mustache, the mustache is perfectly trimmed. No time is' wasted carefully trying to follow the contour of the previous growth. Moreover,- sincerthe razor is held' by the guide bar, there is no danger of the blade slipping tol alter the` desired mustache line of trim.
It will be obvious from the foregoing that to apply the invention' to the user, it is only necessary to adjust' the distance ofthe apparatus from the face of the user by loosening locking screw 29 and sliding member 21 until the stop 17 is positioned below the nose. Thereafter, screw 29 is threaded in to' fix the position` of member 21` and locking screw 19 is loosened so thatthe n'o'se're'st 17 may be adjustably positioned in height until it engages the nose of the user of the apparatus. Thereafter looking screw 19 is threaded into bracket 18 u'ntil it'- locks standard 15 in place. To adjust the height of the trir bar 11, set screw 16 is loosened and bracket 14 is slid along standard 15V until the desired height and position of the trim' rod isachieved. Locking screw 16 is then threaded in untilv it engages standard 15. Of course, the inclination of the guide rod 11- may be changed by articulating arm-21` with respect to bracket 18. This, in turn, necessitates that the position of nose rest 17 and the trim guide rod 11 on standard 15 be correspondingly changed.
Thus, I have provided an inexpensive device which enables those who take pride in their personal appearance to always wear a mustache that is smoothly shaven to the contour best adapted to the appearance of the wearer, and is always neatly trimmed.
It is to be understood that the invention is not restricted to the illustrated and described embodiment, and that various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
