IMPROVEMENT IN STRAP-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,493, dated May 8, 1877; application filed April 2, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, WESLEY HY'RE, of Collins, in the county of Whitley and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Strap-Fastener, of which the following is a specification:
Figurel is a longitudinal section of my improved strap-fastener, shown as applied to a strap and snap-hook. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, part of the fastener being broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the wedge.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for fastening straps to buckles, snap-hooks, and other places without the use of thread, and without cutting or punching holes in the straps, and which shall be easily fastened, shall be light, strong, and durable, not liable to become unfastened, and at the same time neat in appearance.
The invention consists in the flat wedgeshaped case, and the wedge provided with the points, constructed and combined with each other to adapt them for use for fastening a strap, as hereinafter fully described.
B is a flat wedge-shaped case of any desired length, of a width equal to the breadth of the strap A to be fastened, and of a thickness at its thinner end equal to the thickness of the said strap A. O is a wedge of such a size and shape as to fit into the larger part of the case B at the side of the strap A. Upon the side of .the wedge O are formed points 0, to be pressed into the strap A to hold the said strap still more firmly from slipping.
The case B is represented as being attached to a snap-hook; but I do not wish to limit myself to that use, as it may be applied with equal facility and advantage to buckles, and to various other supports, and in various other places.
In using the fastener a strap, A, is passed through the case B. The wedge G is then placed upon the strap, and strap and wedge are drawn forward together into the case.
By this construction the strap will be held firmly and securely, and the greater the strain applied to the strap the more firmly and securely will it be held.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The flat wedge-shaped case B and the wedge 0, provided with the points 0, constructed and combined with each other, to adapt them for use for fastening a strap, substantially as herein shown and described.
