Description

Patented Feb. 28, 1933 UNITED STATES PAT '1; ANDREW GRAHAM. sHI ELns, or ATTLEZBORO, MASSACH S T S, ASSIGNOR mo :FILL- ,2
or ATTLE'BOBO, MASSACHUSETTS,- A CORPORATION or ressa KWIK COMPANY, CHUSETTS CONTAINER V I Application meaiu h 30, 1932. Serial No. 601,909.
My invention relates to containers and refers particularly to containers adapted for use with cosmetics and other adaptable com modities. 5 Many devices have been'invented to containa plurality of cosmetics in a compact and convenient manner, and the greaternuniber of these are so constructed as to carry res movable and replaceable cosmetics. 1
In order tolreplace exhausted cosmetics in containers of'this character, the deviceisso constructed that trays carrying cosmetics, such as powder compacts, lip paste, rouge and similar products, may be inserted therein and withdrawn when the contents of the trays have been used.
These cosmetics trays, "or so-called r fills, consist of a bottom member andnpwardly extended sides, within which the cosmetic is positioned and so attached as toprevent its accidental displacement. f
The usual method of removably fixing these cosmetics trays'within the container is to place them in the container element adapt ed for their reception and retaining them therein by means of projections extending from the sides of the container into depressions inthe sides of the trays, or by frictional contact only; ,1 l
All of these methods for the removable retention of the trays within the container possess" many disadvantages, among which may be mentioned, the accidental springing of the sides fthe container will remove the projections from the recesses, releasing the tray; when the container isopened' for use,
the pressure of the holding hand will release the retaining means; the agitation of the container within the hand bag of the user is liable to jar the retaining means from hold ing contact; the friction of the'powder puff, or finger, over thecosmetic'for use is liable to dislodge the tray; the-exposed sharp edges of thetrays are liable to injure the powder puff or the fingers of the user; the appearance of the cosmetic-carrying portion of the container is uncouth,"unfinished and inartistic as it presents a-pluralityof trays with their sharp edgesfe'xposed.
My device overcomes all of theabove men numerals.
purposes of tioned, and other, objectionable features of the presentemployed removable cosmetic containers as will be evident upon acons'iderationof this specification ,andits accompanying drawing. I V

Figure 5 is a perspectiveview of thetrays and container in unassembled positions. Figure 6 is' a fragmentary of a modified form of my device. "The particular form of'the device of my invention shown in the accompanying F igures 1 to5 inclusive consists of abottom-member andua top member capable of placement vertical section inabutmentito form an enclosing casii'igparticularly suitable for c ntaining a plurality of toilet preparations. The bottom'member consistsof a bottom 10,the sides 11 and 12 and the ends'13an'd 14. A platform, 0r"fr ame 15 extends across fthe bottom me her intermediateof-its bottom and the upper edges of its sides and ends and has two rectangular openings 16 and 17 therein.
16 and 17 are inclined downwardly as 18, 19 and 20. The members 22, 22 of the end 13 of the bottom member; and'theen'd' portion 23 of the frame are hinged to thejpintle-2l. i A tray 3 L having the inclined sides 35 and 36 is slidable above the members 18 and 19 of the frame 15; and a tray 37 having the inclined sides 88 and 39 is slidable above the members and 21 of the frame15. The sides and 3621s well as the end extensionsof the tray 34 are beneath the frame 15 and the opening 17, and the sides 38 and 39, as well as the .end extensions of the tray 37 are beneath the frame 15 and extend beyond the opening 16. I To load the device, the the position 15 of Figure 3, a tray 34: carrying a suitable cosmetic 4:0 is slid into position as shown in Figure 3, and a tray 37 carrying as shown in Figure 3, and the frame 15 moved into the position shown particularly in Figures 1, 2 and 3. , In themodification shown in Figure 6, the
frame-15 is not hinged to .thepintle, but is retained in position by the edge of the plate 15' being positioned beneath the hinge of pintle 24. The other elements of the device 5 of Figure 6 are similar to those previously described.

I do not limit myself to a single opening in the frame member as mentionedspecifically in my claims and the claims are intended to, and do,includea plurality ofsuch openings.
It will be noted that the cosmetic trays are enclosed between the bottom portion of the device and the tray carrying frame 15 in such a way that they are not affected by any spring, 7
