This invention relates to belt buckles and particularlyto devices of this class wherein the body portion of the buckle is composed of separate relatively movable parts to form a storage chamber or Compartment within and between said parts, and the object of.

In carrying my invention into effect, I provide a buckle casinglO having a central box-shaped portion 11 forming a chamber or compartment 18 opening outwardly through said casingQthe side walls of the casing 11 extending at the, front thereof to form front plates 12 disposed at opposite sides of the chamber 13 in said casing, and these plates have top and bottom flanges 14 arranged in alinement with the top and bottom walls of the casing and soldered or. otherwise secured thereto.

The member 31 is substantially U-shapedi'lco in form and terminates in spring members 32 disposed at opposite sides thereof, and which normally extend below the lower edges of the side walls 30 of the cap. The member 31 includes a depending end wall 31a which rests upon the inner surface of the top wall of the cap 27 and is secured to said wall and the side walls 30, and myv invention is not necessarily limited to the specific manner of forming and arranging the member 31.

Supported in connection with the top wall a of the casing is alatch member 33 consisting of an arc-shaped spring plate 34 disposed in the chamber 13 ofthe-casing, normally bearing upon the hinged end 22a ofthe plate 22 and'hascentrally thereof, a tongue tiveposition against the tension of the spring plate 34 to release the cover 27, which cover is .automaticallymoved into open position,

The plate 22 is held against displacement fromthe casing by the spring 34, and'the en- 1 gagement of the spring with the cylindrical end 2242 retains the latch'in position, the assemblage of these parts being made by first insertingthe latch into position in the end wall-10a thereafter coupling the plate 22 with the casing by passing the pin21 through thecasing and the cylindrical end 22a of said plate, maintaining the spring 34 under tension; in this operation. 7

It will ;be understood that while I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, I am not necessarilylimited to these details nor to any particular use of the invention, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to. secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A-buckle of theclass described comprisiri'gia casing, a chamber formed in said casing and :openingthrough one side wall'thereof, a closure member for said chamber, and means for coupling said'closure member with the casing to permit the movement of the entire structure thereof relatively to said cas-- ing in openingand closing said chamber, said means comprisinga coupling element pivotallysupported within'the chamber of said casing and to thefree end of which the closure member is pivoted.- I

A buckle of the class described comprising a. casing, a chamber formed in said cas ing and openinglthrough one side wall thereof,-a closure member for said chamber, means for coupling said closure member with the casing to permit the movement of the entire structure thereof relatively to said casing in opening and closing said chamber, said means comprising a coupling element pivot- 106 ally supported within the chamber of said casingand to the free end of which the closure member is pivoted, and means forming a compartment within said closure member.

and a latch device on one'side wall of said for coupling said closure member with the casing to permit the movement of the entire structure thereof, relatively to said casing, in opening and closing said chamber, said means comprising a couplingelement pivotally supported within the chamber of said casing and to the free end of which the closure member is pivoted, means forming a compartment within said closure member, a latch device on one side wall of said casing cooperating with said closure member to retain the same against displacement from the casing, and said last named means comprising a spring element for automatically moving the closure member into open position when released by said latch.

A buckle of the class described comprising a casing, a chamber formed in said casing and opening through one side wall thereof, a closure member for said chamber, means for coupling said closure member with the casing to permit the movement of the entire structure thereof, relatively to said casing, in opening and closing said chamber, said means comprising a coupling element pivotally supported within the chamber of said casing and to the free end of which the closure member is pivoted, means forming a compartment within said closure member, a latch device on one side wall of said casing cooperating with said closure member to retain the same against displacement from the casing, said last named means comprising a spring element for automatically moving the closure member into open position when released by said latch, and said latch comprising springs cooperating with said coupling element to retain the same against displacement from said casing.

A compartment buckle of the class de scribed comprising a main buckle part and a cover part for closing the compartment in said buckle part, means forming a supplemental compartment within said cover part, means for movably coupling the cover part with the main buckle part, means in one side wall of the buckle part cooperating with an adjacent side wall of the cover part for securing said cover part in closed position, and said coupling means comprising a member pivotally supported within the chamber of the buckle part and movable into and out of said chamber.

7. A compartment buckle of the class described comprising a main buckle part and a cover part for closing the compartment in said buckle part, means forming a supplemental compartment within said cover part,

means for movably coupling the cover part 7 with the main buckle part, means in one side wall of the buckle part cooperating with an adjacent side wall of the cover part for securing said cover part in closed position, said coupling means comprising a member pivotally supported within the chamber of the plate pivotally supported in said casing adjacent one end thereof and adapted to be arranged within said chamber, a box-shaped cover hinged to the free end of said couplin plate and forming a closure for the open en of said chamber, and means forming a compartment within said cover.

9. A buckle of the class described comprising a substantially box-shaped casing, the compartment of which opens outwardly through one side face thereof, a coupling plate pivotally supported in said casing adjacent one end thereof and adapted to be arranged within said chamber, a box-shaped cover hinged to the free end of said coupling plate and forming a closure for the open end of said chamber, means forming a compartment within said cover, and means comprising a spring latch supported in one end of the buckle casing for retaining said cover in closed position.
