INFISIBLE FOOT COVER FOR STOCKINGEESS LEGS Application filed A ril 1, 1930. Serial no. 440305;
'This invention relates to a faddish foot covering to be worn on stockingless legs to protect the feet while encased in low shoes which show a very considerable portion of the arch of the foot. I
An object is to provide a foot cover which will underlie the sole and expose the arch and cover only a small part of the heel and toe structure so that a stockingless leg will show above the shoe adorning the foot.
A further object is to provide a foot and heel cover of knitted or textile fabric incorporating means to contract the rim of the covering parts to the foot so that they will remain 1n a comfortable position on the foot in a shoe.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the cover in place on a foot. V Figure 2 is a botton plan of the cover.
F Figure 3 is a cross-section on line 3-3 of Figure 4 is a longitudinal section of a modified from of'the cover.
Figure 5 is a top plan of another variant.
A recent fad'of the feminine sex of humans is to go s'tockingless and wear a low-cut shoe (shown in dotted lines S) exposing a great deal of the foot.
It is found desirable to have an inner covering to protect the foot from the shoe seams and edges and to provide such protection the present invention consists of a covering havin a flat sole 2 to spread out under the sole 0 the foot and be substantially invisible on the sole of the shoe S.
At one end of the sole 2 is formed or provided a toe .sack 3 whose rim 4 merges down to the intermediate sole 2 from a point well forward toward the toe. A heel sack 5 rises from the sole 2 and its rim 6 merges with the sole on an inclined line from the ridge of theheel.
Along the rims of. the heel and toe parts and sides of the sole is a hem 8 and Fig. 2 shows a bight of elastic 9. laid free in the toe hem and having its ends brought together and secured at 10 on a reinforcing tape 11 stitched on the bottom of the sole 2. In a similar manner a bight 12 of elastic is laid free in the hem of the heel 5 and and its ends are laid across the ends of bight 9 and attached to the tape 11.
Preferably the tape 11 and bight ends, and the hem 8, along the edge of the cover, are external so that the skin of the foot is not engaged by the 'raw edges. If desired, a sheet 15 may be stitched down to cover the bottom-applied tape and elastics.
In Fig. 4 a modified form shows a continuous elastic band 16 in a continuous hem 17 around the edge of the sole and sacks of the cover; the hem laid outward.
It is understood that modifications, variations and adaptations may be resorted to within the scope, principle and spirit of the invention as it is more directly claimed hereinafter.
In Fig. 5, there is shown a form in which a continuous strip of elastic 18 is laid loose in the rim hem of the heel and the toe sacks and diagonally crossed under the center of the sole 2. It is understood that the cover can be worn with the elastic and its guiding hem either inside or outside of the cover; that is, turned inside out.
What is claimed is:
A foot cover of the class described includv in a sole part laterally terminating at the 'si es'of the sole of a given size foot and having toe and heel sacks, a foundation tape attached along the axis of the sole and disposed between the toe and heel sacks, diagonal tension elastics whose ends are attached 'to the tape foundation and are so attached to the rims of the sacks as to close them on the inserted foot, and an inner sole piece over the elastic ends 'and the foundation.
