Description
April 12, 1932. CONDIS 7 1,853,040
CIGARETTE HOLDER Filed Sept 15, -1930 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 12,;1932
UNITED STATES rssao e rnmrrrvo cormrs, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGARETTE HOLDER Application filed September 15, 1930. Serial No. 482,1175] This invention relates to cigarette holders and has for one of its, objects the provision of munication with the air external to the protector, so as to ensure free combustion of the material of the cigarette during the smoking operation.
A further object is the provision of a safety holder wherein the bodyportion or protector may be effective to accommodate a slidable carrier for the cigarette, so that the latter,,without removing'the protector, which is preferably mounted onthe mouthpiece of the holder, may be conveniently ejected for lighting purposes, or for renewal; that is to say for replacing the end ofa smoked cigarette by a new one.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter specifically pointed out, or will become apparent, as the specification proceeds. I
With the above indicated objects in view, the invention resides in certain novel con structions and combinations and arrange ment ofpart-s, clearly described in the fol-,
lowing specification and fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which latter show embodiments of the invention as at present preferred.
In said drawings:
Fig.1 is a plan View of a novel holder.
Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view on the line 22 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the line 44 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is an end elevational view.
Fig. 6 is a, vertical sectional view on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 71s a view similar to. Fig. 6, but with the end door removed. I
Referring particularly to the drawings, the;
" Formed ofmeta-L or of any non-conductor of heat, is a hollowtubul'ar'shellor protector .60
14, the wall of which is provided with parallel transverse slots 15,16, so that a cigarette placed in said protector may havefree com munication with the outer air. Whilethe protector or body 14 is also provided with opposed longitudinal slots 17 and 18, the terminal 19 of said body frictionally engages the seat 12. r
This body, while open at the opposite or outer end, is provided therea-t with a'pivotal- 1y swingable dooror end cover 20, there being a pin 21in the wall of the body on which the door ismounted; While the said body is provided with a semi-circular flange 22, against which the edge of the door snugly 1 fits, when in the closedposition, the door is also provided with ventilating openings '23.
Slidably mounted in the body 14 is a ciga rette carrier,'which includes an annular band '24, the inner periphery 25- of which provides a. seal for one end of a cigarette, so that, the diameter of the seat being less than the inner diameter-of the prote ctor,- the cigarette is always spaced from the protector. In order to positively control-the movement of the car- 35 rier, the latter is provided with, opposed ma nipulatingvstuds' 26, 27, the shanks of are slidable in the slots 17, 18.
By moving the carrier to the door 20 a cigwhich arette is removable from or insertable in the 9 seat 25 and when the cigarette is in the smoking position the head of the carrier is removably engaged in the recess 13, hereinbefore referred to. This carrier, which-is of:
the same material as the protector, is preferably provided with a hollow shank which, frictionallyengaged in the end of the head of the carrier, has a smoke duct 28 in communicationwith theduct 11.
The hereinbefore described construction admits of considerable modification without departing from the invention; therefore, it is the wish not to be limited to the precise arrangements shown and described, which 5 are as aforesaid, by way of illustration merely. In other words the scope of protection contemplated is to be taken solely from the appended claims, interpreted as broadly as is consistent with the prior art.
1 What is claimed as new is 1. A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece having therein a terminal recess, a peripheral seat adjacent said recess, a hollow tubular protector engaged at one of its ter- 15 minals on said seat and having longitudinally disposed slots in the body portion thereof, a carrler removably engageable in said recess and having therein a seat for one end of a cigarette, said carrier being slidable through ZQ'ZSilld hollow protector, and manipulable means mounted on said carrier and movable through said slots for positioning said carrier in said recess, whereby a cigarette terminally positioned in said second seat is dis- 25 )posed in spaced relation with said body portion.
2. A cigarette holder comprising a mouthpiece having a recess at one end thereof, said recess communicating with the smoke duct 30 i of the mouthpiece, a hollow tubular protector mounted at one of its ends on said first end and being open at the opposite end, a door for said open end, and a carrier slidable in said protector and engageable in said recess,
-?said carrier having therein for one end of a cigarette a seat, which latter is of less diameter than the interior of said protector, whereby a cigarette terminally positioned in said seat is spaced from the wall of said proat tector.
3. A holder for the purpose indicated comprising a mouthpiece, a tubular protector mounted on one end of the mouthpiece, and a carrier seated in that end of the mouthpiece Mgion which the protector is mounted, the carrier being slidably mounted in the protector for movement the full length thereof to receive or eject a cigarette at that end of the protector remote from the mouthpiece.
is I 4. A holder for the purpose indicated comprising a mouthpiece, a tubular protector mounted on one end of the mouthpiece, and a carrier seated in that end of the mouthpiece on which the protector is mounted, the
carrier being slidably mounted in the protector for movement the full length thereof to receive or eject a cigarette at that end of the protector remote from the mouthpiece, the carrier being provided with exteriorally exposed manual actuating means for effecting its movement.
In testimony whereof I hereby afiix my signature.
