This invention relates generally to the paper-making industry and particularly to a shaker for diaphragm screens.
The main object of this invention is to provide an improved form of screen shaker which will have several advantages over the wooden toe blocks now in common use.
The first of these advantages resides in the use of an antifriction bearing roller which "19 rides on a metal cam for the purpose of imparting the desired vibratory action to the diaphragm. The second advantage is to eliminate the wear imposed on rubber diaphragms when the shaking mechanism is not accurately adjusted, which is ordinarily the case, dueto the difficulty of keeping Wooden parts in accurate adjustment. The third advantage is economy in time ordinarily spent in keeping the shaker mechanism in adjustment. The fourth advantage arises from the use 0f a shaker which is easily and accurately adjustable.
accomplish these results in the manner set forth in the specification following as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
`Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through a shaker mechanism, diaphragm screen and flow box. Figure 2 is a vertical section taken along the line 2-2 in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical sect-ion taken along the line 3 3 in Figure 2.
Similar numbers of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
5 Referring in detail to the drawings, there is illustrated a screen box on the inner sides of which are secured the strips 11 upon which rests the screen plate 12 of the perforated type such as are in common use. The
3 box 10 rests upon a frame 13 on whose top side is secured a rubber diaphragm 14 which forms a water-tight bottom for the box 10. The frame 13 rests upon the upright standards 15 upon whose side brackets 16 is mounted a flow box 17 containing the usual adjustable dam 18. The ow box 17 is connected to the box 10 by means of a flanged pipe 19 through which the stock 20 flows from the box 10 into the flow box 17.
The diaphragm 14 is held between the boards 21 and 22 by means of the bolts 23 which pass through the spacer 24, which in turn is bolted to the springboard 25 by means of the bolts 26. The spring-board 25 is secured to the under side of the frame 13 by means of the bolts 27.
Referring more particularly to my invention, same will be seen to consist in the shaker element itself, which includes a shaft 28 on which is keyed a three-lobed cam 29 which is partly inclosed by the housing 30 on which is mounted the arm 31 to which is secured a spring-arm 32 by means of the bolt 33. On the end of the spring-arm 32 opposite the bolt 33 is secured the horizontal portion 34 of a cam roller standard 35 to whose upright portion 36 is secured a shaker rod 37, which in Vturn is secured to the spacer 24 by means of the bolt 38. The rod 37 is adj ustably secured to the member 36 by means of the bolts 39 which pass through the slotted openings 40 in the member 36 and through the rod 37 and also through a plate 41 whose bottom edge 42 is in turn under the rod 37. The plate 41 is provided with the laterally extending lugs 43 which are directly above the lugs 44 on the standard 35. ln the lugs 44 are secured the studs 45. The threaded end 46 of each stud passes through the opening 47 in its respective lug 43 on each side of which is placed a nut 48.
On the top side of the spring-arm 32 at its point of fastening to the member 34 is placed a plate 49. A bolt 50 passes through the mem bers 32, 34 and 49 and securely holds same together. Through the members 32, 34 and 49 is also formed a free hole 51 through which passes the elongated bolt 52 whose head 53 occupies a T-slot 54 in the arm 31 which may be integral with or secured to the housing 30. On the top side of the plate 49 and surrounding the bolt 52 is a compression spring 55. Initial tension is provided for the spring 55 bymeans of the nuts 56.
Passing through the sides of the standard 35 is a horizontal pin 57 between which and the cam roller 58 are the anti-friction rollers 59 at the outer ends of which are placed the grease-retaining caps 60. Lubrication is Y supplied to the bearing surface of the roller 58 through the fitting 61.v Before operating the device, it isv necessary to adj ust the shaker mechanism by means 5 of the nuts 48 so that the mean position of the roller 58 Will hold the rubber diaphragm 14 in :approximately a straightlplane, the vibrationsV caused by the Cam 29 moving the rubber diaphragm 14 a slight distanceto each lo side; that is, above andibelowsaid'straight v plane. The net results` obtainedbytheruse of this device, though consisting primarily in the agitation of the stock solution, consist also in providing a dependable vibrating 15 means not susceptible 'to Vsufficient Wear`-to `VAcause same to v hold Ythe rubber diaphragm y1.4: finan injurious position` rEhe function of v the'spring55is,.o'f courseftohold thefroller Y .58 into contactfwiththe cam 29.
