My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in neckties, particularly of the ready-made four-in-hand type, and in the method of manufacturing the same.

Important objects of the invention are to provide a necktie of the character described, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, which is a perfect simulation of a superior hand-tied necktie, which is simple in its construction and arrangement, which embodies a permanently formed knot requiring no stitching or other securing elements except those effected by the tying operation itself, which is durable, attractive in appearance, and espe- 5 cially inexpensive to manufacture.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combi-- nation and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention hereinafter disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.

The upper portions of the front and back members 1 and 2 constitute neck band portions, respectively indicated at 3 and 4. The 1 front and back members'l and 2 gradually increase in'width from the said neckband portions 8 and 4 to the lower tapered ends of rgspective depending portions 5 and 6 there- 0 wider than the back member 2 and is also slightly longer so that when the necktie is assembled the end of the depending portion 5 of the front member 1 will'eXtend below the end of the depending portion 6 of the back member 2.

A filler knot 7 is formed in the back member 2 as clearly shown in Figure 1, and is constructed in the following manner The upper portion of the back member 2 is first folded downwardly on the rear of the depending portion 6 to form a loop 8. The back member upper portion is then positioned, from right to left, across the front of the depending portion 6, and is passed rear- Wardly of the latter through the loop 8 to project the neck band portion l thereof at the right side of the depending portion 6 at the upper end of the latter. When this arrangement of the back member 2 is drawn fairly taut the filler knot 7 is formed, as shown in Figure 2. The back member when completed comprises an apron portion, a left hand knot at the upper end of the apron portion and which terminates in an extended neck part at the top of one side of the knot.

It will here be noted that the term right and left as applied in the description of the present invention, is used relatively to the position of the necktie on the wearer.

The main knot 9 is formed in the front member 1 as clearly shown in Figure 3, and is positioned to embed the filler knot 7 of the back member 2 in the following manner: The back member 2, with the filler knot 7, formed therein as stated, is positioned in back of the front member depending portion 6. The upper portion of the front member 1 is then folded downwardly on the rear of the knotted back member 2 to form a loop 10. The front member upper portion is now positioned from left to right, across the front of the depending portion 5, and is passed rearwardly around the knotted back member 2 and through the loop 10 to project the neck band The front member 1 is considerably portion 3, of the front member, at the left side of the depending portion at the upper end of the latter. The front member when completed comprises an apron portion, a right hand knot at the upper end of the apron portion and which terminates in an extended neck part at the top of one side of the knot. The neck part of the front member extends in an opposite direction to the neck part of the back member. The members are separable. WVhen this arrangement of the front member 1 is drawn suitably taut, the main knot 9 is formed, as shown in Figure 4, and completely encloses and is wholly exterior of the filler knot 7.

It will, of course, be obvious that any other .suitable filler element of suitable contour may be successfully substituted for the filler knot 7, as the latter is entirely enclosed by the main knot 9 and is not visible in the completed necktie. However, the construction of the filler knot 7, in the manner herein described provides a filler element of proper size and configuration to meet conditions found in practice.

The main knot 9 and the filler knot 7 are what are commonly termed as overhand knots, and are identical in construction with the exception that the neck band portion 1,

' of the back member 2 passes through its associated loop 8 to extend in one direction, while the neck band portion 3 of the front member 1 passes through its associated loop 10 to extend in the opposite direction.

The neck band portions 8 and 4c are provided with suitable elastic connecting strips, respectively indicated at 11 and 12. The connecting strip 11 carries a ring 13 at the free end thereof, and the connecting strip 12 is adjustable, as at 14, and carries a hook 15. The latter is adapted for engaging the ring 18 for securing the neck band portions 3 and 4 in proper tension for supporting the necktie in position.

The present invention discloses a novel method of necktie construction, which reduces the cost of manufacture to'a minimum,

and provides a necktie structure of superior appearance and durability.

WVhat I claim is:

1. A necktie comprising two separable members, one of said members including an apron and a left hand knot at one end of the apron terminating in a neck part extending therefrom, the other of said members including an apron and a right hand knot at one end of the apron terminating in a neck part extending therefrom and in an opposite direction with respect to said other neck part,

one of said knots completely enclosing separably and being wholly exterior of the other of said knots.
