The garment may be dis played in a store in the manner just described, and when the garment has been purchased it may be packed in the device in the following manner: The portion 18 is disengaged from the slits 16 and flattened against the central portion 1, and the projections 12 are folded inwardly about the lines 15, as indicated in Figure 3. The sleeves or outer parts of the garment are thus folded on to the front of the garment and the hanger portion of the device, with the hook 20, is folded downwardly about the line 3. The lower portion of the garment is then folded within the compass of the central portion 1, after which the flaps 9 and 10 are folded inwardly about the lines 2 and 4, and the portion 6 is folded upwardly about the line 5. The flap 8 is folded over the top of the package into engagement with the other side thereof, as indicated in Figure 5. In this form the package may be secured by any suitable means and carried home by the purchaser or delivered to the purchaser by mail.

A form of locking device and handle is shown in Figure 5. A handle member 23 is secured to the part 1 and a locking member 24; is attached to the part 6. The locking member 24 has a slot 25 which is recessed at 26 to receive the shank part of the member 23. It will be seen that the locking member 2 f maintains the handle member 23 against the flap 8 and affords a readily releasable locking device which is sufiiciently secure for the purpose for which it is designed.

Figure 4 illustrates another method of folding the device for employment as a hanger. According to this method the device is first folded as shown in Figure 2 and the garment is placed on the projections or lugs 12 as previously described. The parts 1, 6, 9 and 10 are then folded rearwardly and upwardly about the line 3 and the hook 20 is inserted through the slit 22. The parts between the line 21 and the flap 8 are then allowed to fold down about the line 21 and hang in front of the upper part of the garment, as indicated in Figure 4. The device with the garment thereon may then be hung up by means of the hook 20, and the bent parts of the portions 1, 9 and 10 form a cover for the shoulder parts of the garments, which parts are the most susceptible to the collection of dust when the garment is displayed in a store or hung in any other exposed position.

It will thus be seen that the invention provides a combined hanger and wrapper or envelope which is very practical, efficient and inexpensive.

Various modifications within the scope of the appended claims may be made without departing from the invention, it being understood that the foregoing description and accompanying drawings are given by way of example only.

I claim:

1. A blank for forming into a combined garment supporting orpackaging device comprising a rectangular central area, a similar rectangular area mtegral-ly connected with the lower edge of said central area, side flaps carried by the side edges of said central area and a portion having laterally projecting, garment-supporting lugs connected with the upper edge of said central area, a relatively shallow portion of the same width as the central area being connected with the upper edge of said central area, said upper edge being weakened to form a line about which said shallow portion may be folded, the laterally projecting lugs being carried by a substantially rectangular portion connected with the upper edge of said shallow portion.

2. A blank as claimed in claim 1, wherein a hook-shaped portion is formed in the portion which carries said lugs.

3. In a garment-hanging device a rectangular port-ion havinglaterally projecting, garment-supporting lugs having slits therein, a second rectangular portion connected with the first mentioned portion and adapted to be folded so that its upper corners may be inserted into said slits to reinforce said lugs, and a hook-shaped portion formed in said portions.

4. A device as claimed in claim 3, wherein said lugs are a ranged to be folded inwardly upon the rectangular portion with which they are connected.

5. A garment-hanging device comprising a paper sheet shaped to form a hanger portion having inwardly foldable, garment-supporting lugs, and a cross-shaped packaging portion connected with said hanger portion, a fold line being provided across said packaging portion, and a hook being formed in said hanger portion and adapted to protrude through a slit on said fold line when said packaging portion is folded about said fold line, substantially as described.
