This invention relatesto a safety razor blade holder and has for an object to provide asafety razor blade holder particularly adapted for holding a safety razor blade while sharpening the same.

A further object of this invention is to provide a safety razor blade holder which may be quickly and easily operated to admit the razor blade therein with a minimum effort and which will hold the same securely while stropping the same either on a strap, plain or plate glass, or any other suitable sharpening surface. Still another object of this invention is to provide a safety razor blade holder which is particularly adapted for holding double edge safety razor blades for sharpening purposes and which will hold both the so-called .fold as well as the so-called new type of razor blade commonly being sold under various trade names such as Gillette, Probak and the like.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, as will hereinafter become apparent,

this invention comprises the constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, hereinafter set forth, claimed, and shown on the accompanying drawings. In these draw- Figure, 1 is a side plan view of the safety razor blade holder constituting this invention.

There is shown at 11 the handle and 12 the base of the safety razor blade holder constituting this invention. The base 12 is preferably flat on the bottom and convex on the top as will be seen from Figures 4: and 5. Located centrally and longitudinally of the base 12 are a pair of projections 13 of a size adapted to be received in a slot of a safety razor blade preferably near the opposite ends of the slot as shown in Figure '8. I

These projections 13 are spaced the same distance as in the old type of razor blade and thus may serve to receive either a new type of blade 14 as in Figure 8 or an old type of blade 15 as in Figure 9. Projecting upwardly from the base 12'is a boss 16.

The handle 11, which is shaped as shown has a pair of outwardly downwardly projecting wings 17 and 18, the bottom of said wings being concave as shown. This handle 11 is longitudinally recessed as shown at 19, one end of this recess being enlarged as at 20'whereby the handle 11 may be placed over the projections 13 and boss 16. A pivot 21 is placed through the opposite sides of handle 20 and the boss 16, whereby the handle 20 may be pivoted about the pivot 21 to open position of Figures 2 and 6 or to closed positions of Figures 1 and 7.

In operation, the handle 11 will be pivoted about its pivot 21 to the open position and the blade will be placed over the projections 13. The handle 11 is then depressed to receive the projections 13 within the recess and hold the blade with its opposite edges projecting outwardly thereof as shown in Figures 8 and 9.

g "The wings 1'7 and 18 on the handle will tend to press the blade edges downwardly to bring it in contact with the stropping surface thereon. The holder is then merely held in the .hand and stroked backwardly and forwardly in opposite directions'over a strap, a

plain piece of glass, or any other suitable strapping surface a few times, whereupon a sharp edge is easily-obtained.

After a few strokes with the blade in one position, it is desirable to remove the blade and reverse it in position so as to sharpen both sides of each edge equally.

The novel features and the operation of this device will be apparent from the foregoing description While the device has been shown and the structure described in detail, it is obvious that this is not to be considered li1nited to the exact form disclosed "and that changes may be made therein within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention. 7

Having thus set forth and'disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is 1. A safety razor blade holder comprising a longitudinal base member and a longitudinal handle member, a boss on said base memberat oneend thereof, a pivotal connection between said boss and said handle member, a pair of'upstanding projections on said base,

said handle being recessed in alignment with said upstanding projections, a hand grip on saidhandle member extending substantially along its length, whereby said handle may be pivoted about its connection to said base to permit a safety razor blade to be placed over said projections and then pivoted downwardly to hold said safety razor blade in position thereon.
