One of the'objects of'our invention is to provide" a removable vise aw faceplate 5 which can be easily nd' quickly adjusted on Referr1ng now to the drawings wherein like reference characters indicate like parts 3 throughout the several views, V a r Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one embodi- "20 mentof our invention; v
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-section of the same taken approximately on the line 22 of Fig. 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of 'partofa v1se showing the vise jaw face plate of the present inventionv applied thereto; and V Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 2 showing a modified form of the invention. a v v 7 Referrin now more in detail to the draw ings the reference character 10indicates the removable vise jaw face plate in its entirety. Ordinarily face plates of this character are made of relativelysoft metal and are placed to clamp an article therebetween whichmight be otherwise marred or scratched by the rela tively hard jaws of the vise.
The removable vise jaw face plate of the present invention comprises a, face portion 12, top and bottom marginal'flanges 14 and side marginal flanges16. The side flanges V 16 are deeperthan the top and bottom flanges 14, as shown, and are channeled on their in-{ ner faces at 18. Within these channels are h is simple in construction and over the faces of vise jaws when it is desired a [iippi'i' at'i n-fiieiiiaj a, 192.0. steam, 454,544. 1

modifications is'kn'urled as shown at '38 to insurea betterf'gri'p-on articles which itis desiredtohold. inithe'vise; It is to be noted in'bothm'odificati'ons of the device that the marginal flange on the face plate extends entirely around the face plate. One of 'the advantages-of this construction is that when the face plate is adjustedonithe jaw of a vise accidental displacement therefrom is prevent-ed as when; for example, asli'ghtly taperedor irregular'object is being'held be I tween'the'j aws of the vise. In such instance, the faceplate would-be tilted somewhat and the friction between thei'vis'e jaw and face plate might be less than that between the 1 face plates and the article'bei'ng held-so'that when pressure were applied on the article in one' direction or another as by filing the articlej displacement of the face plates might occur if no provision were made to prevent the: same. "Another advantage of extending nqthe 'margin al', flange entirely around-the face plate is that the entrance. of extraneous rmaterial: between the vise and-facelplateis thereby prevented.
""-In the modification of the device sh wn 7 in Fig; 4 the side marginal flanges 30 are 'flangesflfiin 'the modification shown in Figs.
From theforegoing it will be clear that a removable face plate has been provided 7 which can bequickly and easily adjusted to position, one which is effectively held in place under any working condition, one which is simple in construction, economic of manufacture and one whichisefi'ective in-nse. i 7
Although preferred embodiments of the invention have been described, it istobe understood that modifications and vvariations may be resorted to without "departing from the spirit thereof as delined by the snbjoined What is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is: i :1.
