IN VEN TOR. 6 5 o h z' h aza/mlae A TTORNEYJ.
Patented Sept. 15, 1931 UNITED STATES I PATENT, OFFICE CAP WITH A CLIP .FOR FOUNTAIN PENS Application filed November 5, 1930, Serial No. 493,602, and in Japan September 23, 1930.
This invention relates to caps with a clip for fountain pens and has for its object to provide a cap wix h a clip attached thereto by means not appearing on the outside.
In the accompanying drawings Fig. 1 is a front view of a cap embodying my invention, partly in section.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a clip.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a cap for fountain pens which is made suitably thick at the closed end and is provided with a threaded hole 2 for receiving a screw 8 at the inner side. 4; represents a clip with a holding bulbous end, which is bent at the other end substantially by a length corresponding to the distance from an outside wall of the cap to the opposite inner wall thereof at a substantially right angle and is provided with a hole 5 for the screw 3, the width of the bent portion being smaller than the inner diameter of the bore of the cap.
The bent portion having the hole 5 of the clip 4: is placed on the bottom of the cap bore by extending inwardly through a lateral aperture 6 such as to closely fit the bent portion, which is formed directly below the said bottom for that purpose, and is secured to the cap by means of the screw 3 and a washer 7.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I claim:
In combination, a cap for fountain penshaving at the inner face of its solid closed end a longitudinal tapped hole and a lateral aperture which opens into the interior of the cap; a clip having an offset arm adapted to extend through the lateral aperture and to rest on the inner face of the closed end of the cap, lhe said arm being fiat in cross section and substantially equal in width to that of the lateral aperture and provided with a hole of a diameter at least as large as that of the tapped hole a screw threaded into the tapped hole through the hole on the offset arm of the clip to secure the clip in position, and a washer inserted between the offset arm and the head of the screw to aid in retaining the
