It will be noted from Figure 2, that each of the members 5 and 6 is slightly curved 30 longitudinally, and that each is provided near its free end with a substantially circular port-ion 9, and by reference to this same figure, it will be noted that each of the members 5 and 6 is provided with a relatively enlarged portion 10 near the eye thereof. This construction provides a rela tively large tongue engaging surface at the center or connected portions of the members 49 5 and 6, and this portion will serve to prevent the bit from squeezing a horses mouth and tongue and also to place the smallest surface on the heaviest bearing point and to prevent the bit from doubling up. This re- 45 sult is obtained by reason of the fact that the members 5 and 6 are projected rearwardly in a horizontal plane to form the large portion 10.
