This invention relates to furniture, and has particular reference to an improvement in extension tops fortables.

The invention primarily comprehends an extension table top which includes a main stationary top section and extension leaf sections which are connected to the marginal edges of the main section for swinging movements respectively to an extended position in a plane with the main section and to a folded out of the way position underlying the main section. e

The invention furthermore comprehends in an extension table top of the character set forth a connection between the leaf sections to .cause simultaneous movements thereof whereby when one extension leaf section is moved to an open position or vice versatile remaining sections are moved therewith, thereby avoiding the necessity of independently moving the sections. 7

As further object, the invention embodies a means for simultaneously locking and rigidly supporting the extension leaf sections in e their extendedvposition, which means is operable from any side of the table.

The invention further resides in the provision of a stationary table top and drop leaves therefor which are constructed in such aman nor that when not in use, the drop leaf sections c are moved to a' point where they will not interfere with the knees of personsseated at the table and further arranged in such a manner that two or more of said tables may be brought together with their marginal edges in contact. V

The invention furthermore comprehends'a means for normallyretaining the extension leaf sections or drop leaves in a folded out of the way position underlying the main section so as to prevent accidental movement or. swinging of said leaves either when the table is at rest or'being transported.

Other objects of the invention reside in the comparative simplicity of construction and mode of use, the economy with which the table top may be produced and the general efficiency derived therefrom.

In order to provide a means for locking and rigidly supporting the leaf sections in their extended position, a plurality of radial lock bars 'corresponding in number to the number of leaves are attached to a center piece 21jwhich is mounted for turning movement on the stud 18 between the rotatory ele- 2o Inent 17 and the under side of the main stationary top section 6. The lock bars 20 are turntable from an inactive position within the oonfinesof the main stationary top sectionto an active position projecting beyond 25 the marginal edges and under the leaves 10 when the leaves arein' their extended position and are designed to engage with keeper elements 22 and'23 on the under surfaces of the-leaves and main stationary top section 6. From the foregoing, it will thus beseen that an improved extension top for tables has been devised in which the drop leaves are connected for simultaneous movement from an opened to a closed position or vice versa and in which means is provided for rigidly holding the leaves in folded condition against accidental movement and for rigidly locking the leavesin extended'or opened condition What is claimed is: a H 40 An extension table top including a main stationary top section and leaf sections connected to the marginal edges of the main sec- 'tion for movements respectively to an extended position in a plane parallel with said main section and to a folded out of the way position underlying the main section, a connection between said leaf sections to cause simultaneous movement'thereof, means for locking 7 and rigidly supporting said leafsectionsin V their extended position, said means comprising a member mounted for turning movement on. the under side of the central portion of the main top section and radial arms turntable I therewith from an inactive position within the confines or area of the main top section to an active position projecting beyond/the marginal edges of the main top section and underlying the leaves andkeepers provided-reepectivelyon the under side of the leaves and the underside of the main table top section.
