structure, and has for the primary object the provision of a new and improved article of furniture which may be employed as a davenport or day-bed for o'dinary use and when in what may be terme a folded or collapsed position, and wherein features of construce tion are presented which permit the device tobe opened so as tofassume an extended position making the same suitable for ordinary bed usage; Another object the combination article of furniture of the character set forth wherein the frame of the bed is of such form that withsimple manual adjustments the device may be adjusted to assume either its folded or extended positions. A further object of the invention resides in a simple andeconomical article of furniture possessing the convertible properties above described, wherein the device presents an attractive, finished appearance when set i up for ordinary day use, and further, to proboth strength and lightness in weight as well as one which is economic to produce or manufacture.

With these and further objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements to be fully describedand pointed appended claim. I

To retain the folding back or frame structure in its elevated position, I have provided the side bars of said framewith a pair of curved check linksl'T. These checklinks are pivoted as at 18 to the back frame structure 11, and intermediate of their length the links 17 are notched as at 19 so as to fitover the, shank portions of rigid headed studs 20 which project from the endmembers 7. The outer or free ends of the links 17 are connected with coil springs 21' which have theirjopposite ends connected to the, rear b'arsu-8.
