MEANS FOR ADJUSTING uo'rE BOARDS ON AIR BLAST COTTON GINS i Fiied Oct. 19, 192 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Sept. 1930 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JEFFREY JOHN WALLACE, or AMITE, LOUISIANA, ASSIGNOR TO GULLETT GIN COMPANY, or AMITE, LOUISIANA MEANS FOR ADJUSTING MO TE BOARDS ON AIR-BLAST COTTON GINS Application fiIed October 19, 1929. Serial No. 400,981;
This invention relates to improved means ton gins. I
The object of the present invention is to provide an improved and simplified structure, by means of which the mote board can be. adjusted both vertically and toward and away from the saw in an air blast cotton gin, simultaneously, and held in adjusted position. 7
The invention consists of the improved and novel construction arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
Two sheets of drawings accompany this specification, as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Figure 1 is a diagrammatic side elevation showing the attachment of the improved device to a gin saw and air blast; V
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the improved device similar to Figure 1 Figure 3 shows the segmental gear tail;
for adjusting the mote board on air blast cotin de- Figure 4 is a vertical side view showing the device in position on the gin, parts of the gin being omitted for clearness; and
Figure 5 is a view taken on the line 55 of Figure l.
In the drawings, 1 rep-resents a saw; 2 the air plpe; 3 the air nozzle, and 4 the lint flue.
The mote board 5' is slidably positioned.
upon one wall of the lint flue l, as is customary, and is constructed with downturned flanges 6, adapted to embrace the end of a lever 8, fixedly secured to shaft 9. The lever 8 being pivotally connected to the flanges 6, as by rivet 7.
On shaft 9 is gear 10, having teeth 11 intermediate to stop members 1212, adapted to engage suitable stop members 15 provided on the frame of the gin. A handwheel 14: is also secured to shaft 9, and a pawl 13 is mounted to engage teeth 11, and thus hold shaft 9 in adjusted position.
fixedly secured a segmental V cumferentially with respect to shaft 9; and
thus carry the mote board 5 upwardly and toward the saw simultaneously; and that by proper proportioning of the lever 8, this movement can be properly proportioned to secure the maximum efliciency fromthe device.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim:
1. Inan air blast gin including a saw and the convergent mouth of the lint conduit adjacent said saw, a mote board slidably mounted on the lower wall of said lint conduit and forming part of the mouth thereof, and means for adjusting said mote board towards said saw, said adjusting means including means for determining an arcuate path of movement for the free edgeof said mote board as it approaches the saw, convex toward thelint conduit, whereby the mouth area of said'conduit is not diminished by the adjustment of the mote board toward said saw. 2. In an air blast gin as claimed in claim 1,. the adjusting means including a shaft with means'for rocking said shaft, a crank on said shaft extending substantially normal to the plane of the mote board when the latter is in retracted position, said mote board being pivotally connected'to said crank, and loosely slidable on the wall of said lint conduit whereby it can move slightly angularly with respect to the wall of said conduit.
In testimony whereof I alfix my signature.
JEFFREY JOHN WALLACE.
