The invention relates to an attachment for an eyeglass case, and has for its object to 'afford means for readily securing a customers initial or other emblem to such a case.

More particularly, the object of the invention to provide a simple and practicable structure, entailing little additional cost, and permitting a dealer to readily aflix an emblem or a customers initial to a case.

A further purpose of the invention is to afford a structure that permits using a separate initial or emblem carrying device, which may be in the form of a button, and readily securing it to a case so that it may be substantially flush with the exterior surface thereof. 7

Another object of the invention resides in the employment of a metal case and constructing it so that an emblem or initial carrying device can be positioned in an opening or depression of the case substantially flush with its'outer surface, and fixedly retained by securing means formed integral with the case.

To these and other ends, the invention comprises the structure that will appear from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the novel features being pointed out in the claims following the description.

The invention may be applied in a variety of ways, and as illustrative of a possible form, there is here shown a conventional type of eyeglass case formed of metal and compris ing a body portion 1 and the usual hinged cover 2. During the course of manufacture, the cover 2 is subjected to a suitable stamping operation to form a depression including the annular channel 3, terminating at its in ner edge in a series of outwardly extending prongs 4, while 5 is a central 7 opening resulting from-upsetting the metal to form the prongs l. V

The structure is intended to permit at tachment of an emblem or initial carrying device which may be in the form of a. conventional button including an outer covering 6 which serves to hold in assembled rela-. tion the inner rings 7 and 8. The button may carry an initial, as shown in Fi ure 1, or be provided with other suitable em lem, and is intended to be attached to the cover of'the case by a dealer at the time of sale, the initial being selected in' accordance with the instructions of the purchaser.

When the button or emblem carrying de vice is attached, it preferably occupies a position such as shown in Figures 1 and 4, its outer surface being substantially flush with theouter surface of the case, and locatedin the depression or channel 3 where it is retained by the prongs 4 which are shownbent outwardly between the rings7 and 8 of the button. This position of the prongs 4 is obtained by forcing the button into the depression of the case through the instrumentality of a suitable hand tool, the prongs 4 being automatically guided and bent outwardly between the rings 7 and. 8, as shown in Figure 4, as the button is forced into the depression of the case.

When furnished to the dealer, the case is entirely finished and lined, ready to receive the button or emblem carrying device. The latter can be selected by the dealer, positioned in the depression in the cover, and forced in place where it is retained as shown in Figure 1, thereby completing the case ready for use.

The button is preferably positioned and secured in the manner described, although other specific means than this may be devised to successfully accomplish the purpose without departing from the principal feature of the invention, and this application is intended to cover such modifications or changes as may come within the intent of the improvement or the scope of the following claims.

I claim:

1. A metal case having a depression formed therein, said depression terminating in a central opening surrounded by outwardly bent attaching devices, and an emblem carrying device positioned in said depression and held in place by bending the aforesaid outwardly bent attaching devices into engagement therewith.

2. A metal case having an annular chan-' nel in its outer surface, the inner Wall of said channel comprising outwardly bent prongs, and a circular emblem carrying device located in said channel and retained by the aforementioned prongs.

3. A metal case having an annular channel in its outer surface, said channel terminating at its inner edge in a series of outwardly extending attaching members, an emblem carrying device, and means on said. emblem carrying device for bending said members into engagement therewith.

4. A metal case having an annular channel in its outer surface, the inner wall of said channel comprising a plurality of outwardly projecting prongs surrounding a central opening, and an emblem carrying device adapted to be secured in said channel by said prongs.

5. A metal case having an annular channel in its outer surface, an inner wall of said channel comprising outwardly projecting prongs surrounding a central opening, and an emblem carrying device adapted to be positioned in said channel. and comprising means for bending said prongs into engagement therewith when positioned in said channel.
