ing therein for a single match and further having a striking or scratching surface in the path of travel of the match'head to effectignition of thematch during its withdrawal from the box. f
A further object of theinvention is to provide a match box of the above type in which the initial delivery of the match therefrom is first fully displaced from the container or box with side tapering walls at the delivery end of the box engaging the sides of the match head to prevent complete discharge and to cause said match to be withdrawn laterally with the head thereof contacting a scratching surface to ignite the same at the end of its travel from the box. 7 P
7 With the above and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing 7 and claimed.
In the drawing I V b Figure 1 1s a perspectiveview of a match box constructed in accordance with the present invention, the same being-illustrated as 'ovaliin cross-section;

clined walls'to prevent endwiseremoval of I the match and to necessitate lateral removal thereof; I
Figure 4 is a bottom plan view of the box, showing the false bottom with the discharge opening and the scratching face on-the'lower side of the false bottom; y b
Figure; 5 is a vertical crossssectional View Y taken on line 5+5 of. Fig re 15 and 7 the ma 1 through the is never h less to Serial No. 300,628.
Figure 6 isa verticalcross-sectional view taken on line V6'6 of Figure 2.
The match box being preferably constructed of relatively thin sheet metal, comprises a body portion 1 oval in cross-section as shown in Figure 1 with the upper end thereof ex ternally reduced in thickness to providea seating shoulder for the removable slip cover 2-, the lower end of the body portionl being provided with a false bottom 3 set upwardly fromthe extreme lower end 4. I
A pairfof upwardly diverging walls 5 ex: tend between the bottom wall l of the body portion and the false bottom 3 parallel with 'or horizontal axis of the body portion defining a restricted slotted opening 6 at the extreme lower'end of the box body that is The matches M are placed in the box upon bottom 3 removing the cover 2 and a single match is" deliverable from the box through the opening 9. :The head H of the match is of a diameter greater than the diameter of the slot 6 to pre vent complete escape of the match when de-' liv-ered through the opening 9 and necessitating complete removal thereof through the box by moving the match laterally bet-ween the inclined walls 5 and through the slot 6 at the open end 7 thereof. During lateralmovement ment thereof over the scratching surface for i the purpose of igniting the same is illustrated f by dotted lines in Figure 2, As stated,lit is necessary to withdraw the match laterally slot 6' to efiect complete with-- drawal thereof from the box and'during such 'movement, the same is ignited.
While there is'herein shown and describedthe preferredembodiment of the invention, it e und stood that miner 7 I 1 changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scopeof the-inVenti on asclaimed.
