Description

Jan. 21, 1930. c. E. ANDERSON CLAMP Filed June 8, 1928 Elm-van to'c ugnoleraon Patented Jan. 21, 1930 UNITED STATES CALVERT E. ANDERSON, OF ROCKPORT, INDIANA CLAMP Application filed June 8, 1928.
The present invention is directed to improvements in clamps.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, eflicient in operation, and one which can be manufactured at a very small cost.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clamp so constructed that it can be easily and quickly operated and can be used for various purposes.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clamp so constructed that a quick adjustment can be made in order that the work can be engaged therein and the clamp afterwards manipulated for firm clamping engagement with the work.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in a novel feature of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the clamp,
Figure 2 is a fragmentary side elevation, partly in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing 1 designates a lever, said lever having formed therein a plurality of alined perforations 2, the purpose of which will be later explained.
A head 3 is provided and has formed therein a socket 4;, said socket being adapted to re ceive the forward end of the lever 1, which is secured in the socket by a clamping bolt 5. The head is provided with an angularly disposed extension 6 having formed therein a threaded opening 7, and engaged in said opening is a screw bolt 8 having upon its inner end a swiveled disc 9.
Slidably engaged with the lever 1 is a clip 10, said clip including a top wall 11 and side arms 12 which span the lever 1, said arms having carried thereby a spring controlled pin 18 which is adapted to selectively engage the perforations 2 in order that the clip can be held in adjusted position upon the lever 1.
Serial No. 283,991.
Having its outer end pivotally mounted upon a pin 14 carried by the arms 12 of the clip is a shank 15, said shank being partially twisted, as at 16, in order that the jaw 17 will be disposed horizontally for cooperation with the disc 9 during the clamping operation.
Pivotally engaged with the shank 15 is a hook 18, said hook having its bill adapted to engage upon the upper edge of the lever 1 to hold the shank 15 and jaw 17 in proper alignment with the screw bolt 8.
It will be apparent that a clamp constructed in this manner can be quickly applied to the work upon adjusting the clip 10 upon the lever 1, after which the screw bolt 8 can be conveniently operated to firmly clamp the work between the aw 17 and the disc 9.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the construction, operation and many advantages of the herein described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and proportion and minor details of construction, may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
That is claimed is:
1. A clamp comprising alever, a clip adjustably mounted on the lever, a shank pivoted to the clip, a jaw carried by the shank, a head connected with the lever and having a screw bolt carried thereby provided with a disc for cooperation with the head for clamping work between the jaw and head and means carried by the shank for detachable engagement with the lever to hold the aw and disc in alinement.
2. A clamp comprising a lever, a clip adjustably mounted on the lever, a shank pivotally connected with the clip and having a jaw associated therewith, a hook carried by the shank for detachable engagement with the lever, a head carried by the lever and having an extension carried thereby, a screw 95 bolt adjustable in the extension and having a disc carried thereby for cooperation with the jaw for clamping work therebetween.
3. A clamp of the class described comprising a lever, said lever having a plurality of 1 perforations formed therein, a clip including side arms, a spring controlled bolt carried by the side arms for selective engagement with the perforations, a shank pivotally connected to the arms of the clip, a hook carried by the shank adapted to have its bill engaged with the lever, said shank having a jaw carried thereby, a head carried by the lever and having an extension thereon, a screw bolt adjustable in the extension and having a disc carried thereby for cooperation with the jaw for clamping work therebetween.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
