Description

Dec. 31, 1929. A. H. KEMPER ET AL STEAM BOILER Filed April 22, 1927 Patented Dec. 31, 1929 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE ALBERT I-I. KEMPER AND WILLIAM H. DURKIN, OF DAYTON, OHIO STEAM BOILER Application filed April 22,
This invention relates to improvements in steam boilers, having particular reference to vertical, flueless boilers of the type set forth in our copending application for patent Serial No. 98,04A, filed March 27, 1926.
In the accompanying drawings which serve for illustrating the invention:
Fig. 1 is a view in elevation of the boiler;
Fig. 2 is a view in Vertical section.
In vertical flueless boilers of the type here shown, there is a direct connection between the fire box and the smoke pipe which results in excessive heating of the pipe and abnormal loss of heat through the pipe. Various forms of dampers and other regulating devices and special connections have been employed heretofore for overcoming these conditions. Such arrangements, however, while reasonably effective, require more or 2c less regulation with the result that, if the adjustments are not promptly made as re quired for normal regulation of the heat, the best results are not obtained.
The invention of the present application provides simple, effective means for overcoming these conditions, consisting in a smoke conduit 1 connected to the smoke outlet 2, and wound around the boiler spirally, as here shown, upward to the smoke pipe 3, the walls of the conduit being formed of light boiler plate, or heavier sheet metal than the smoke pipe.
By this arrangement a substantial area of the boiler casing is covered by the conduit which acts to conserve the heat in the boiler by minimizing radiation of heat from the covered area, and further by reaction of the heat passing through the conduit and by minimizing the heat passing through the smoke pipe.
It has been demonstrated by the limited use made of the invention, thus, far, that more uniform temperature of the boiler results and that substantially less fuel is required for generating and maintaining a given head of steam.
For heavy duty boilers a steam pressure line 4 may be connected as shown in the drawings for effecting forced draft through the smoke conduit and pipe.
