IMPROVEMENT IN SHIRT-BOSQM SUPPORTERS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 173,35 l, dated February 8, 1876; application filed July 23, 1875.

end when in use is inserted in suitable loops or pockets prepared for it in the back part of the shirt-bosom, and serves, without any inconvenience to the wearer, to keep the bosom extended in smooth and symmetrical shape.

A and B are a pair of longitudinal bars, which may be made of corset-steel or other elastic material. rl`he \v are lnade with the represented concavo-convex curvature to adapt them to the proper form ot' the shirt-bosom. C D E are suitable curved transverse bars, provided at each end with two or more studs 0r buttons, F F G G, adapted to fit within slots H H in the longitudinal bars A B, the said slots having at one end openings h of sufcient size to'admit the heads of the studs or buttons F G, and at their other extremities transverse notches, which receive the necks of the buttons and hold the longitudinal and transverse bars lrmly together. I represents a shirt-bosom of common construction, formed on its inside with pockets J J K K, at the upper and lower ends, respectively. The parts are s'o arranged and proportioned relatively to the shirt-bosom an'l the pockets J K therein that, the longitudinal bars, having been sprung into the said pockets, the said bars are then bent or sprung inward sufliciently to receive the buttons of the transverse bars,

vand after the latter are adjusted to their final .themselves may be separately covered, as is common with corsctsteel, skirt-wire, &c.

The following is'claiined as new:

The combination of the longitudinal bars A B and transverse bars G D E, fastened together by the studs F G and slots H, substantially as described, so as to constitute an adjustable shirt-bosom protector, adapted to be folded in compact form when not in use, substantially as set forth.
