If desired, a packing element 10 may be introduced between the flange 9 and the shoulder 2. This casting 6 has a sloping wall 11 extending from the flange on one side to and terminating with the depending vertical wall 12 of the member 6 which forms one wall of the chamber 7. The sloping wall 11 tends to direct material flowing into the head through the grating into the chamber 7 and these walls 11 and 12 and adjacent portion of the head form the outlines of a chamber 13 in the drain head directly over and open to the outlet conduit 5. The vertical wall 12 of the insertible casting 6 is apertured and threaded to receive a tubular member 14 having an angular finished face at its discharge end to receive the valve 15. 1. A back water floor drain comprising a hollow head having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the opposite end, said inlet end being formed with a shoulder and peripheral vertical flange, a cast shell having a peripheral flange adapted to seat on the shoulder of the said head, one portion of the shell being shaped to provide a depending chamber open at its top within the flange, said chamber having a vertical Wall and a sloping wall extending from near the top of the shell and clownwardly inclined terminating at the vertical wall, said shell when inserted providing a chamber in the drain head practically directly over the outlet to the head said depending portion of the shell having an outlet in the vertical wall near its bottom and a swing check valve supported exteriorly of the said depending chamber tending to close by flow backward through the outlet of the drain head.
2. A back water floor drain comprising a 19 permitting accesstothe chamber 13' without s necessity of removal of.
hollow head having an inlet end adapted to be positioned substantially flush with the floor surface, and an outlet of smaller diameter at below the upper open end of the shell, a wall orfloor upwardly inclined from the vertical wall to the peripheral portion of the shell providing for drainage of material into the said depending chamber of the shell, a discharge opening for the said chamber at about the bottom of the vertical wall, a swing check valve therefor opening by reason of flow entering the depending chamber and closing by reason of back flow through the outlet of the head.
3. A back water floor drain comprising a hollow head having an inlet end adapted to be positioned substantially flush with the floor surface and an outlet at the opposite end of smaller diameter, a detachable shell adapted for insertion in the head supported therein intermediate the inlet and outlet ends, said shell being formed to provide a depending chamber on one side, said chamber having a vertical wall occupying approximately the center plane of the shell and terminating below the upper end thereof, a downwardly inclined wall or floor extending from the side of the shell opposite the chamber and terminating at the said vertical wall, an aperture in the said inclined wall permitting access to the interior of the head at one side of the depending chamber, the said vertical wall having an opening near its lower end, a tubular member insertible therein providing an outlet, a swin check valve carried on the end of the said tubular member, the said valve being accessible through the said opening of the inclined floor and positioned approximately directly over the outlet for the head, and a removable grating at the inlet end of the head and covering the shell.
4. A back water floor drain comprising a hollow head having an inlet at one end and an outlet at theopposite end of smaller diameter and the axis of which is offset and parallel to the axis of the inlet, a shell insertible in the inlet and detachably secured to the head, said shell being formed with a depending chamber at one side of the outlet for the head, said shell having a vertical wall at about its center plane and an inclined wall extending from the top of the vertical wall to the side of the shell over the outlet, said inclined wall having a closable opening, and a swing check valve on the outer side of the said vertical 'wall directly over the outlet for the head providing a closure for the outlet opening provided for the depending chamber of the shell.
5. A back water floor drain comprising a hollow head having an inlet at one end and an outlet at the opposite end, a metal shell detachably secured therein in sealed relation thereto and into which fluid passes from the inlet of the head, said shell having a depending hollow portion on one side and an inclined wall extending from the hollow portion to the opposite side and, when assembled with the head, providing a chamber within the head beneath the inclined wall open directly to the outlet of the head, a check valve supported in the depending portion of the shell tending to open by a flow of fiui'd into the shell and to close by back pressure in the chamber open to the outlet.
