RUBBING MOTION FOR DRAWING FRAMES AND THE LIKE.

The devices used for condensing and rubbing slivers in drawing frames and the like ordinarily consist of rollers to which a rotary and at the same time an axially reciprocating motion is imparted,
The object of the present invention is to produce a rubbing motion which is easily operated and which an be easily adjusted in accordance with the nature of the fibres so as to perform efficient service, and the invention consists in the provision of mating rubbing rollers the surfaces of which are curved in axial direction, one roller being convex and the other concave, means being provided for imparting rotary motion to the rollers as well as a relative axial reciprocative motion about the center of the curvature.

The rubbing motion comprises leathercovered mating rollers 1 and 2 the surfaces of which are curved in axial direction, one roller being convex and the other correspondingly concave. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the upper roller 2 is 0011- cave and it is held in a frame carried by an arm 4 which is adapted to rock about an axis 5 situated in the center of the curvature. The roller is reciprocated about this axis for which purpose the frame is formed with an elongated eyelet 8 in which engages a pin on a collar 7 mounted on a rod 6. The latter is reciprocated by means of a crank disc 11 for imparting rocking motion to the frame 4.
The roller-1 receives rotary motion only, and this motion is communicated to the roller 2 through the medium of gear- wheels 9 and 10 adapted to remain in gear in spite of the axial movement of the gear wheel 9.
The crank pin of the disc 11 is mounted on a slide 13 which is guided by means of an elongated slot on a pin 12 and adjustable by means of a rack 13 and a pinion 14 for varying the throw of the crank according to requirements.
The distance between the rollers can also be regulated, for which purpose the pivot of the arm 4 is mounted in a slotted bracket 16 wherein it can be adjusted by means of a screw 15.
The arrangement shown in Fig. 3 differs from the one already described in that the curvatures of the roller surfaces are reversed, the arm 4 being pivoted above instead of below the rollers and adapted to reciprocate the convex roller instead of theconcave one.
In the construction according to Fig. 5 there are two pairs of complementary rollers mounted on two shafts. The gears 9 and 10 are arranged between the roller pairs. The upper roller shaft is held in a cradle 17 which is supported on guide rollers 18. The edges whereby the cradle bears against the guide rollers are curved in conformity with the rubbing rollers so as to maintain the latter in their proper relative position when the cradle is reciprocated. The shafts 19 of the guide rollers are mounted on a T-shaped standard 20 which is secured to a bracket 21 so that it can be vertically adjusted for regulating the distance of the rubbing rollers from one another. A pin 30 on the cradle engages in a slot in a pivoted arm 4 which is rocked by a crank rod 6 for reciprocating the cradle.
The device may be subjected to other modifications within the scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. A rubbing motion for drawing frames and the like comprising revolving mating rollers having surfaces which are curved in axial direction, the rollers being mounted so as to allow of relative axial reciprocation about the center of the curvature.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 in combination with means for imparting relative reciprocating motion to the rollers, said means comprising a cradle carrying one set of rollers, guide rollers whereon said cradle is supported, the surfaces whereby said cradle bears against the guide rollers being curved in conformity with the rubbing rollers so as to maintain the latter in their proper relative position when the cradle is reciprocated on the guiderollers, a crank for reciprocating the cradle, a support for the guide rollers, and means for adjusting said support for varying the distance between the mating rubbing rollers.
