The present invention relates generally to easels of the type usually employed for advertising and displaying packaged articles the top of counters, show cases and the Easels of the character above mentioned are commonly made from cardboard, andby reason of theirconstruction are quickly affected by moisture, so that they can not be 1 used for any appreciable length of time in certain climates, where the high degree of moisture materially shortens their life. Most easels employed for the purpose above stated have certain component parts lued or other- 1 wise adhesively secured together, andthese parts are soon affected by the moisture and caused to separate. In addition to this the entire structure when weakened by moisture readily bends under the weight of the .ar-

ticles s11 ported thereby, destroying the easellfor furt er use and discard the same.

It is therefore the object of the present invention toconstruct' an easel of the class making it necessary to such as cardboard or the like, and afford said easel maximum strength and durability to withstand the effects of moisture, and thereby permit of its use inclimates where other easels have been found wanting in these respects.

One of the chief characteristics oi? the present invention resides in the provision of an easel of the character above mentioned, wherein the main body portion is slightly bowed or curved to afiord it the desired strength and durability, and thus prevent the easel from bending or flexing when used in climates having a high degree of moisture.

Another object of the invention resides in the provision of an easel wherein the main body portion is slightly bowed or curved, and additionally reinforced across its entire width to prevent bending or flexing of the easel under the conditions above outlined.

-More specifically stated, the body of the easel is slightly bowed or curved to afford it additional strength and rigidity, and held in this bowed condition by interlocking flaps in question from'a single blank of material,

arranged at one side of the easel, and which so flaps are utilized to reinforce the structure in its entirety. Y A further object of the invention resides 1n the provision of an easel with a novel construction of means for supporting the packaged articles thereon, so that the articles can not be casually separated from the easel.

Other objects and advantages will appear when the following detail description is :read 1n connection with the accompanying 60 drawings, the invention .residing in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as claimed. The easel forming the subject matter of the present invention is formed from a single blank of material, preferably cardboard or the like, the main body portion of the easel being indicated at 10. It might here be stated. that the easel may varyin size and configuration without departing from the inventive idea. As herein illustrated the body portion 10 is preferably of rectangular outline, and in accordance with the preferred embodiment of the invention, this body portion is cut away to providean opening corresponding in contour to the configuration of the packaged article adapted to be supported upon the easel for the purpose of displaying and advertising said article.

In this connection it is tobe noted that the body of the easel may be provided with any number of such openings, depending of course upori the size of the articles and size of the easel. The material cut from the body incident to the forming of the opening above mentioned is bent to provide a supporting tongue indicated at 11. If desired the package can be secured to the tongue in any suitable manner, such as for instance by extending the tongue upwardly thro ugh the Wrapper of the package, or by One of the chiefcharacteristics of the present invention resides in bowing the main body, portion- 10 in the manner clearly illustrated in Figure 4:, thus affording the easel increased strength and rigidity, as a guard against bending or flexing when the easel is used in climates having a high de-, gree of moisture. In addition to bowing the body portion 10 for this purpose, the

main body portion of the easel-is furtherstrengthened agd reinforced by flaps 14 and L 15 respectively which extend from the opposed longitudinal edges of the body por- .tion 10 as illustrated in Figure 5, and which flaps are adapted to be extended toward each other across the entire width of the together, and impinge against t e sides of the package to assist in firmly holding the package upon the easel. An easel con-' structed in accordance with thepresent invention can not be readily or easily aifected by moisture, and can therefore be used in climates wherethe present day easels have been found wan'tingin these respects. The strength and stability of the easel is maintained indefinitely, so that easel can not bend or'flex under the weight of the articles supported thereby-when used in damp cli mates. It will be further noted upon inspection-ofFigure 3 that the package-supporting tongue is arranged vertically and rests against the reinforcing flaps 14: and 15 after the latter have been associated, the
