One object of my invention is toprovide a simple but attractive device for covering boxes of candy, gum, drugs and other package merchandise, and protecting them, and at the same time displaying them to cus tomers. Y

Another object is to provide in connection with such a device convenient means for receiving and holding articles for the convenlo ience of the customers or the merchant and at the same time prevent theft or pilfering of the merchandise.

Another object is to facilitate the raising and lowering of the device and the placing of it in position over the box.

In the preferred form of the invention, the entire device is formed of a single casting or mould of glass with a recess in its lower rear face adapted to fit over the open upper edge of a box and a pocket or groove of some sort in its upper front edge, all constructed and arranged so that the device may be readily raised for the purpose of access to the box or so that the box may be drawn out from the side or rear of the device.

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View of a device involving my invention showing it resting on a support and covering a box.

Figure 2 is a side view showing the device being raised to permit .access to the box.

Figure 3 is a plan view of the device.

The body 5 is provided with a recess 6 open at the bottom and adapted to fit over a box 7 containing the articles to be displayed. The inner side walls of this recess are preferably provided with inclined lugs or ribs such as 8 and 9 for assisting in positioning the device over the box and at the same time insuring a fairly snug fit for the upper edge of the box to keep out dust and insects.

The front of the device is provided with an extension 10 hollowed out to form a pocket 11 in its upper surface. A Web 12 preferably connects the extension with the body for reenforcing purposes. The upper surface of the body is preferably inclined downward and forwardly so that articles dropped upon it will slide down into the pocket 11. The part 13 may be formed as a lens to magnify the articles inthe box. I prefer that the entire device be formed of a single piece of transparent glass so that the purchaser can see not only iii till

the contents of the box through the top but so that he can also see the sides of the box which are usually provided with trademarks, advertising legends, etc. At any rate the upper part 13 should be transparent.

To facilitate the raising and lowering of the device I preferably provide a depending rib 14 beneath the extension 10 and near the front end, and I also provide a. ledge or rib 15 at the rear serving as a thumb-piece or handle. The operation and use of this rib 14 and the handle 15 will be obvious from an inspection of Figure 2. The rib 14 serves as a fulcrum for positioning the device so that when it is lowered again it will come down into its proper position over the box Without crushing or dis placing the box.

1. A merchandise cover and protector comprising a transparent glass body provided with a recess in its lower rear part adapted to receive a box and an open pocket in the upper front part, the wall over the recess being formed as a magnifying lens.

2. A combined change receiver and merchandise protector comprising upstanding connecting Walls arranged to enclose an article of merchandise on all sides and protect the same from dust, a cover from which said walls depend, a handle projecting from one of said walls, said cover sloping beyond the side opposite said handle to form a change receiving recess attached to said merchandise protector, said cover being transparent at least substantially between said upstanding walls.
