Description

Dec. 9, 1924- 1,519,051
- A. w. RAYNER CIGAR BOX ATTACHMENT WITNESSES 11v VENTOR E mpmzumfiyzvm W I BY W A TTORNE Y5 Patented Dec. 9, 1924:u
UNITED STATES ALFRED WILLIAM RAYNEE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGAR-BOX ATTACHMENT.
Application filed January 26, 1924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, ALFRED lVILLL mr Barman, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of the Bronx, in the county of Bronx and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Box Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has relation to attachments for display boxes, which are particularly designed for use in connection with cigar boxes, the main object in view residing in the provision of means for effectually dis- 7 playing the contents of the box in a show case or show window.
Some of the well known makers of cigars put out in addition to their regular size cigars small all tobacco cigarettes of the same quality, and it is further an object of the present invention to provide means for supporting from the front upper edge of the cigar box a smaller package of little cigars of the same brand.
As a still further object the invention comprehends attachments for a cigar box which serve to ornament the box and efl'ectually display the contents thereof whereby to attract the attention of the customer.
As a still further object the invention comprehends devices of the character set forth which are simple in their construction and mode of attachment, which are inexpensive to manufacture and produce, and which are highly efficient in their purpose.
With the above recited and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction set forth in the following specification, particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, it being understood that the right is reserved to embodiments other than those actually illustrated herein to the full extent indicated by the general meaning of the terms in which the claims are ex pressed.
In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the attachments in applied position to a cigar box.
Fig. 2 is an inverted perspective View of the lid covering member.
Serial No. 688,867.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view of one of the covering strips for the upper edge of the end walls of the box body.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the supplemental container support removed from the box.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, a cigar box is illustrated in which the body includes a bottom A, end walls 13 and front and rear walls C and D. A cover E is hinged to the box body in the usual manner for swinging movement to a rearwardly inclined open position for display purposes The attachment consists of a lid covering member 10 of substantially the same area as the box cover and which is provided with end channel flanges 11 which are adapted to fit over the side edges of the cover to retain the covering member 10 in place. The covering member 10 is provided with an. aperture or apertures 12 for displaying therethrough the trade mark on the cover of the lid E. The remaining surface of the covering member 10 affords an advertising space for the retailer. For further ornamenting the box channel strips 13 are provided which are designed to fit over the upper edges of the end walls B of the box body. In order to afford means for displaying a supplemental package for smaller cigars or cigarettes, an element designated generally by the character 14 is provided which consists of a channel strip 15, the front medial portion of the depending front flange 16 being enlarged or elongated as at 17. A strip of material 18 having upwardly bent side flanges 19 and an upwardly bent front flange 20 is pro vided, which, together with the portion 17 constitutes a receptacle for a package. The strip 18 is associated with the channel strip 15 by the inturned extremities 21 at the rear of the side flanges 19, which extremities are gripped between the enlarged portion 17 and the depending front flange 16. The side flanges 19 are turned inwardly at their upper edges as at 22 and the front flange 20 is turned outwardly at its upper, edge as at 23. This supplemental receptacle is supported from the upper edge of the front wall C by engaging the channel strip 15 over the upper edge of the front wall C of the box body whereby the supplemental receptacle assumes a forwardly and downwardly inclined relation for displaying the contents thereof.
1: claim:
1. The combination with a cigar box of a lid covering attachment therefor having a display aperture therein for exposing therethrough portions of the lid, and channel flanges at the edges thereof for detachably associating said lid covering attachment With said lid.
2. The combination with a cigar box of ornamenting attachments therefor comprising a detachable lid covering element detachable edge binding strips for the end Walls, and a supplemental package supporting means carried by the upper edge of the front Wall of the box.
3. The combination With a cigar box, of ornamenting attachments therefor comprising a detachable lid covering element, detachable edge binding strips for the end Walls and a supplemental package supporting means carried by the upper edge of the front Wall of the box, said supplemental package supporting means comprising a channel strip engageable over the upper eds e having a forwardly and downwardly inclined box like receptacle.
4. The combination With a cigar box, of ornamenting attaclnnents therefor comprising a detachable lid covering element, detachable edge binding strips for the end Walls, and a supplemental package supporting means carried by the upper edge of the front Wall of the box, said supplemental. package supporting means comprisinga channel strip engageable over the upper edge having a forwardly and downwardly inclined box like receptacle, comprising a strip of material having upstanding side flanges, an upstanding front flange, and a depending enlarged portion on the channel strip engaging the rear edges of the upstanding side flanges.
