IMPROVEMENT IN CORNER-PIECES AND CLAMPS FOR PICTURE-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 170,392., dated November 23, 1875; application filed July 24, 1875.
To all 'whom it may concern:
' formed on the under side of an angular corner-plate, which groove is adapted to receive a bead upon the outer edge of the frame, whereby the attachment of the plate to the frame is greatly strengthened when it is nailed thereto, and the liability to breakage ot' the said frame greatly lessened, as will be hereinafter more fully explained.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates an angular metallic plate, the branches a of which are at right angles the one to the other, and may be of a length proportionate to the size of the frame upon which they are l designed to be applied. These plates may be ot' any desired style of ornamentation, or ot' any description of metal or alloy thereof. They may even, where the frame is very light,
be made of wood. Whether of Wood or iron,
they will be provided upon their under side with a groove, b, of sufficient depth to receive a-bead, B, of corresponding shape, upon the front edge of the frame. Consequently, when the corner-plate is secured into position by means of suitable bolts, screws, or pins, driven through perforations in the plate into the Wood-work ot' the frame, the function ot the said pins, bolts, or screws will be merely to prevent the escape ofthe bead from the groove on the under side of' the corner-plate, while the strain produced by rough handling or a` casual fall will be shared, and, to a great eX- tent, borne, by the bead. This effect is due to the fact that the bead serves to prevent the side and end rails from being separated when the angle-plate is secured in position on the frame, so as to take in the said bead; also, to the fact that any strain, instead of being only borne by that portion ot the frame where the nails are driven, is distributed over all that portion ot' the sides and ends otl the frame included or covered by the groove or channel in the under side otl the angle-plate.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by LetterspPatent, is-
As a new article ot' manufacture, an ornamental corner-piece and clampl forl pictureframes, consisting essentially of the plate A, having a right-angular groove, b, upon its un- Ader side, adapted to receive the upper bead of a picture-frame, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
