Description

' WITNESSES INVENTUR MMQMS ATTORNEYS.
MPEFERS, PNOTO-LITHOGRAPNER. WASHINGTON. D C,
UNTTEDF STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. ALDEN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN BRAIDED JEWELRY.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,940., dated November 16, 1875 application filed March 29, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM W. ALDEN, of the city and county of Providence, Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Imprgyement in Braided Jewelry, of which the following is a specification Thisinvention relates to a new and improved method of constructing articles of jewelry of braided wire of either gold, silver, or other metal or material.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention.
The piece of jewelry presented in the drawing is an ear-drop, but I do not confine myself to any particular article of jewelry, or shape or form of ear-drops.
This kind ofjewelry is braided in a braiding-machine over a former made of paper or similar material, which is afterward burned out, and the piece of jewelry so braided will conform to the shape of the former.
'A represents the drop, and B the hook or fastening by which it is fastened to the ear.
The Wire may be of any shape in cross-section-as round, square, oval, or other form.
Jewelry may be made in this manner of any most delicate and beautiful styles from the most costly material, at a greatly-reduced price to the purchaser.
I am aware that articles of jewelry have been made of braided wire, and that seamless tubes formed of knitted wire are not broadly new.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters,
Patent A tubular and seamless ear-ring or other article of jewelry, formed of braided wire, substantially as herein described.
WILLIAM 'WALLAGE ALDEN.
